William Tarman Obituary

Bill (C. William) Tarman passed away peacefully at his home in Rancho Palos Verdes, California on November 5, 2011, one day before his 88th birthday and surrounded by the love of his family. He was the first of four sons born in Chicago, Illinois to Veronica Swickerath and C. Edgar Tarman. He graduated from Leo High School in Chicago and after serving in World War II, earned his B.S. degree in Civil Engineering from Illinois Institute of Technology. Early in his career he served as president of Meiscon Corporation, a civil engineering division of Control Data. In 1971 he moved his family from Glen Ellyn, Illinois to Los Angeles to join Daniel Mann Johnson and Mendenhall (DMJM), eventually serving on their Board of Directors. Among his many responsibilities, he was the coordinating point for the Chicago firms the company acquired, most notably serving as head of Chicago's Consor Townsend Envirodyne Engineers. He was a senior member of the first management team for AECOM, retiring as Senior Vice President. He spent his retirement years traveling the globe and enjoying so many different world cultures. He was married to Anne (Anneliese Balzweit) for forty happy years. They became proud parents to Christine, Linda, Marianne, and Jim, and delighted grandparents to Matthew, Emily, Christopher, Kelley, and Annie. He leaves behind his children and grandchildren, his dear brothers and sisters-in-law, Paul and Therese, and Larry and Pat, and his cherished friend and traveling companion of 23 years, Anne Bailey. This remarkable man will be greatly missed by those who knew him. A viewing will be held Wednesday, November 16 from 6:30 - 8:30 pm at Rice Chapel and Mortuary, 5310 Torrance Boulevard, Torrance, CA 90503. Funeral Services will be held Thursday, November 17 at 11:00 am at St. John Fisher Church in Rancho Palos Verdes, CA. Interment will be at Green Hills Cemetery.
