William Hormann Obituary
Born Oct 3, 1929 in Bremerhaven Germany. He passed away peacefully in Hospice care, on June 12, 2015, from cancer.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Toni Teevin-Hormann.
He is survived by his sister, Elenor (Irv) Licko. He will be greatly missed by his children, Bonnie O'Malley, Etoile (Skip) Jensen, Tory(Paul) West, Kurt (Nan) Hormann; his 8 grandchildren, and his 4 great-grandchildren; along with his niece, Karen (Bob) Erst and her family.
Bill was a sheet metal worker with union Local 73 for his entire career. He was one of the first certified SCUBA diver instructors in the Chicago area. He taught SCUBA diving at the Elmhurst YMCA for many years. He helped organize a SCUBA diving club; H2Ogres. He would organize dive trips to the Cayman Islands before it was discovered as a diving mecca and was one of the first to organize ice dives in Pearl Lake quarry in South Beloit, Illinois. He enjoyed diving the tunnels in the Chicago harbor and many of the ship wrecks in Lake Michigan. His other hobby was photography. He built his own underwater camera case and had a darkroom in the basement. He also had a love for cooking. Our dinner conversations would be about how the meal was made or what could be done with the left overs.
Looking back over his life we see a pattern of his creativity; the construction of the entire upstairs of our home in Elmhurst, building a 4'x6' fish tank in the basement, and his talent for furniture building.
It was his wish not to have a memorial service.

This picture of Bill best describes my memories of him. I was a teenager and got to know him through the Elmhurst Dive Club. We dove together many times and his mentorship improved my skills immensely. I dated his daughter Bonnie for a time and was able to spend some time in his home with the rest of his family. A time I remember fondly from my youth. I recall watching him build camera case after camera case and dispose of them to try again because they did not meet his standards. Thank you Bill for the fond memories. May all your dives be in warm waters and calm seas with unlimited visibility.
