Gilbert Demange Obituary

Died: January 17, 2026 in Riverside, IL
Dr. Gilbert "Gil" Demange, 97, passed away peacefully surrounded by family. He was a respected physician, devoted father and grandfather, and a man known for his compassion, integrity, and lifelong curiosity.
Born in 1928, Dr. Demange survived polio as a young boy, an experience that helped inspire his interest in medicine. He graduated from medical school in 1951 and served as a U.S. Army physician during the Korean War. After returning home, he completed his surgical residency and later established a medical practice in Lyons, Illinois, where he cared for patients for many decades. He was known as a doctor who listened, remembered, and treated every patient with dignity.
Dr. Demange lived by the Golden Rule and believed in treating everyone with respect. He approached the world with deep curiosity and a constant desire to learn. Throughout his life, he enjoyed reading, gardening, investing, and studying new ideas-always seeking to understand how things worked and how people lived.
In 1955, he married Marion, the love of his life. They shared many years together before her passing in 2018. After selling his practice, Dr. Demange pursued an Executive MBA and, in retirement, explored new interests and hobbies. He remained intellectually engaged with the world throughout his life.
Dr. Demange is survived by his seven children and ten grandchildren. He will be remembered for his kindness, his steady moral compass, and the example he set for caring for others.
