Mary Joan Ambrose Schuit
Born: May 9, 1930
Died: January 10, 2026 in Oak Brook, IL
Joan passed away peacefully on January 10th. She is preceded in death by her parents, Alfred and Mae (York) Diesman; her sister, Norma Samuelson; and husband of 46 years, Edward "Ed" Ambrose.
Joan was proud to be born and raised in Cincinnati, Ohio, and she raised her sons, Steven and David (Nancy), with Ed in Cheviot. She loved raising her children near her sister, Janet (Don) Richmond, and being a loving aunt to Tina (Ed) Vargas and Donna Bryant along with other nieces and nephews. Joan worked the majority of her adult life and excelled in roles that required organization and accountability. She demonstrated how to be successful in business when it was still primarily a man's world and inspired many females to follow her path. Joan loved dessert (the sweeter, the better) and indulging in a Manhattan when dining out. Throughout her life, she had many friends including one group where every female was named a variation of Mary or Joan. Joan cherished being a grandma to Jordan (Andy) Spillane and Corbett and Kelsey Ambrose, as well as great-aunt to Sam and John Vargas. Her grandchildren enjoyed playing the card game War and Candy Land with her. She was a wonderful great-grandmother to Fletcher and Keaton; her face would light up at the sight of them! In 2004, Joan made the difficult move to Westmont, IL and soon found a new love in Robert "Bob" Schuit. Joan made this lifelong bachelor an honest man in 2008, and they enjoyed many happy moments together over the past 17 years. Joan will be missed by all who love her.
The family extends heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Terra Vista Memory Care Facility for their compassionate care, treating Joan with dignity and respect throughout her journey. A funeral mass will be held at on Friday, 1/23 at 10am at Holy Trinity Church with a luncheon to follow. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Holy Trinity School Scholarship Fund (
