Aunt Vi was my hero and the most important person in my young life. She helped us keep things together under some pretty stressful conditions. Most of all she cared for my siblings when I couldn't be there. Without her love and uncompromising support our family would have been split up and sent away. She taught me the value of determination, strength, and courage; lessons that serve me well to this day. I will always love her and hope to see her again some day in the next life. I miss her much.

This morning I saw a cute violet floral jacket in a store window that would make the perfect gift for Aunt Vi. She always loved to wear violet colors to match her name. I am very sad she is no longer with us to receive gifts. I am so thankful and appreciative to Aunt Vi for giving me the greatest gift of all, a good life. She took me and my siblings under her wing after our mother died 52 years ago. She held a strong, loving, and sometimes stubborn position in raising me, especially at times when my father, her brother, could not. I am not the man I am today if it were not for her. She lived a good, long life. I am eternally grateful to her for making me a part of it.

Aunt Vi and Uncle Earl were always there for us when we lost our mother at an early age. Aunt Vi was truly our second mother over the years and we are so grateful that she was in our lives. She made it possible for us to stay together and grow up as one family into adulthood, an immeasurable gift. Ron, Bob, Rita and I will miss you so much but we know you are continuing to watch over us from a peaceful vantage point.

Great visit with Grandma Vi during Thanksgiving of 2013.

I am very fortunate marrying into such an amazing family with strong roots. Many of these stong roots came from Grandma Vi passed along through Ron, Don, Bob and Rita (my mother in law). I wish I could have been there to celebrate her life. She has always been in Jenny and I's thoughts and will for many more years to come.

Some of my fondest youthful memories revolve around Vi and Earl and the wonderful times I spent with my cousins Barb, Tom and Rick at their lovely home on Highland Ave. in Downers Grove. My mom was Vi's sister, and our family lived in Naperville. We'd drive to DG every weekend to see our grandparents who lived on Wilson Ave. and, more often than not, our visits involved getting together with the Bobergs. I spent countless weekends on sleepovers with cousin Barb, while Vi and Earl "tolerated" our youthful exuberance as we "rock n' rolled" to our favorite Ricky Nelson tunes, wearing out their living room carpet as we would dance and sing for hours on end! I also spent several delightful camping vacations with their family...which were the only times I went on vacation as a child. All in all, every memory I have of Aunt Vi, Uncle Earl, and the entire Boberg family are very HAPPY ones...and I can only hope and pray that when I pass away, others will have as fond of memories of me as I have of Violet Boberg...a true Auntie EXCEPTIONALE!!!
