Mondo was my best friend for over 30 years. He made me laugh more than anyone I ever met. His loyalty was uncompromising and his sense of humor unequaled. I am going to miss him greatly. His peace is with Erika now. And thats the only thing he ever wanted. God bless you Tim. See you on the other side.

Tim Wheeler was my friend. In 1974 I graduated from high school and moved to the big city of Des Moines with high hopes of becoming more “worldly”. One of the first people I met was Tim. He was at a gathering and was passing around a strange rock. I asked him why the rock was so special and he said it was a dinosaur dropping he had recently found in Iceland while on a geology field trip. I thought, “this is worldly.” From that day, he was a “go to guy” in my life, someone who would listen and offer his opinion on just about any subject. He was really my brother Kirk’s friend but he always had time to be sure treat me like his “little brother”. He was around during my days at ISU in Ames. We shared great interest in aviation and took several trips together in rental planes to learn whether Cessna was better than Beechcraft. When I moved to the San Francisco area after graduating, Tim and Erika soon found their way to Los Angeles. I saw them from time to time and when Karen and I were married, they were very glad to have her as their friend, too. Over the years we kept in touch and met up when we could. The last time Tim and I were together, we went out for some ocean fishing off San Diego and had a great day. Erika passed soon after that and I regret that we were not there for Tim. Life is short, so don’t forget your friends, although anyone who knew Tim will never forget him.

We fondly remember talking with Tim at one of Erika's many memorial celebrations. He was so heartbroken. It was so sad to hear he had passed but we are thankful to think that they are reunited together again in eternity. Long may you ride with the wind, Tim. It was such a pleasure knowing you during your short and wonderful time on this earth. Our deepest condolences goes out to his family...

I, as many, spent hours philosophyzing with Tim. He was unique and irreplaceable. I had the privilege to have both Tim and Erika as friends for over 35 years and untold miles. Who else would greet you upon your arrival at their home by flying your state flag? My thoughts are with you, Eric, Charys and family, you are not alone in your loss. Rest in peace, Mondo, rest in peace.

My wife Robin and I knew Tim and Erika in Des Moines where we all went to school together. Tim was always ready for a good time and we had many late nights together. He was a great friend and a really good person. We will miss him.

Tim was a wonderful, funny friend. Our time with Tim and Erika defined our happy times while living in LA. We have many stories that we have retold and retold of our incredible times with Tim. Among them, was a beautiful day sailing, Tim losing his hat and falling in while trying to retrieve it and the struggle of all of us trying to pull him back in the boat! Every time we talked about the adventure,we all laughed until tears ran down our cheeks.

We love that our children got to know Tim. Our visits with Tim and Erika were so special, his laugh, his great garage sale finds, his books, his wit and his love. He spoiled us with his funny and amusing packages and we loved his messages on our machine. We still use his Levis pocket coasters he gave us years ago. In this last hard year, he sent us some beautiful, heartfelt cards with wonderful sentiments that we will cherish.

Our condolences to the Wheeler family. He was such a unique a wonderful gem in our lives. Tim and Erika were a wonderful team in life. We picture them together now.

Sincerely, Tom, Brenda, Claire, Anna, and Jack Heflin

Tim was a very dear cousin to the Arnold families, he will be missed so much by all the family.

A fun mental picture I have of Tim with my family is at Venus Beach....all of us on roller blades, trying to get across the highway. Which of my young children said that all the adults had to be on blades too, who knows? Anyway...it didn't work and we traded in the blades for bikes. Another neat memory for me, is arriving in LA after the long Pacific flight....and no cousin to help me. I phoned his home; he'd made an answering machine message JUST for me; saying that he was on his way. That's the kind of neat guy he was. I love him for the cat named Leon, the term "hello Helens" and those neckties that he wore; they had belonged to our grandfather Leon. I love him for the packages he sent, always decorated with extra pictures or photos. And his homemade postcards from photos of visits we made, my parents made or their visits East. I treasure each one....and I have kept them! He was a special guy, and in my heart I will think of him with his loving wife in their neat home in San Diego. Cousin Margie

Dear Family,

My deepest sympathy to you.

I did not know Tim very long but he was a very sincere, intelligent and warm person.

He loved and missed his wife very much and now they are together. He also talked of his mother with great pride.

Sincerely,
Kathy Grigg
