It is coming up on 10 years since Phil passed, and he was gone too soon. I was one of his loyal customers for a good number of years (not only in Downers Grove, but also when he cut hair in Naperville, prior to his getting his own shop there in Downers.)
Phil knew his history from the Civil War to everything about the Wild West, and I enjoyed listening not only to his encyclopedic knowledge of history, but also of his travels out west on his vacations.
I also enjoyed his views toward politics, which he was not bashful in expressing. He was a consummate conservative, who only wanted the best for our country, and I was steadfast in my agreement with his conservative political views.
He was a great guy, and I really miss him.
Best wishes to his surviving family, and all those nieces and nephews!

Dear Marsha,
I was so sorry to hear about Phil's death. He has gone far too soon and I know you'll miss him tremendously.
I remember Phil as the best older sibling of any of my friends. When we were 6 or 7 years old, and he was an impossibly cool high school student, he would actually play with us. Do you remember this the same way I do? I think the game was called statue, although I might be mixing it up with freeze tag. He'd hold one of us by an arm and a leg and spin around until we were screaming with laughter. No one else's big brother would do that.
I also remember one warm spring break when we were 10 or so. The weather was mild and beautiful and we played basketball (HORSE, I think) in your back yard almost every day. When we weren't playing, Phil was. My favorite part was that Phil would narrate his one-man game as if he were a radio announcer. "And now Thomas goes up for a layup and he scores! Thomas from 12 feet out, off the rim, but Thomas gets the rebound!" I actually can't remember if he called himself Thomas, or the name favorite player of his. I just remember thinking he was a really good announcer.
I haven't had the privilege of knowing Phil for the past 20 or more years, but I have heard that he has been a truly involved and terrific uncle. I know that your kids will also miss him dearly.
So sorry,
Love,
Angela Libby Jankousky

To all the family, Tori and I send our love. From the time Bob and I were little and took time to play Whiffle ball with us, to when Phil and I last talked (when he was cutting my hair!) Phil's unique blend of kindness, frankness and humor was so very special and unique. He will be sorely missed. - Jim (and Tori) Libby
