I was deeply saddened to hear about the news of Phil's passing. Phil was a wonderful neighbor-it was always a great joy to run into him in the building. In the end, Phil was more then just a neighbor, but a good friend and I will miss him dearly. My sincere thoughts and prayers are with The Arko family.

I was quite surprised and saddened by the news of Phil's passing. Since his leaving the AMA, we had corresponded every so often by e-mail. Phil always was very positive. It was a pleasure to learn of his career successes and the fun that he had in musical ventures. He clearly touched many lives and will live on in our memories. My sincere condolences to the family.

My deepest condolences to Phil's family. The news came as a big shock to me and Phil's former NYU classmates.
Phil and I started the part-time MBA program at NYU together. I always enjoyed talking to Phil and listening to his insight during class discussions. He always worked so hard and was a great contributor to group projects. I am happy that he was able to graduate and go to Italy for the DBI program.
Phil was a very talented and great person. I will miss him.

My deepest sympathies to the Arko family.
Phil was a terrific coworker at the American Medical Association. My fondest memory was he came out dancing with my friends and myself years ago, and he turned a good evening into a fabulous one. We are grateful to have shared in Phil's smiles and kind spirit.

I was fortunate to know Philip for most of his life, and his immediate and extended family for most of mine. He was a blessing to us all through not only his music, but also through his wonderful personality as well.
I remember the boy, the teenager, the young adult - as well as the beloved son, brother, nephew, and cousin to one of the most talented families it has ever been anyone's privilege to know. The extended Arko family was, on more occasions than there is space to describe here, almost a second family to me as I transitioned from Mr. Fischinger's way-too-young replacement at his death as Organist at St. Stephen's Slovenian Catholic Church to becoming an Organist in my own right, and eventually a choir director for a time prior to leaving for 'greener musical pastures' in 1992.
The Arko family I spent so much of my years with musically (Janez, Joze, Lojze & Michaela and all of their children) cannot possibly realize how great their impact was on a young girl-teenager-young woman throughout the years. They opened their families to me as though I was 'as truly Slovenian' as they were by birth and I became by osmosis.
Philip played a fairly large part in that from a fairly young age, and I truly considered his talent and his personality to be true gifts from God (and darn good geneaology as well!).
To all his extended family members, but most specifically to Joe, Freida and Erika - thank you SO much for allowing me to share the wonderful soul that was and still is your son & brother - nephew & cousin. Can anyone wonder what he and Father Vendelin are co-'orchestrating' up in Heaven? Whenever I hear liturgical music from now on, I will always think of Philip.
With Deepest Condolences on your loss,
Patti Zubek (Mrs. Randy E.) Zeleznak
