IN THE CARE OF
Blake-Lamb Funeral Home
John William Stillwell, age 79, of Kerrville, Texas, formerly of Lisle, Illinois, passed away comfortably on February 1, 2026, surrounded by his loving wife and sons.
John came from a long-standing family history in Downers Grove, Illinois, where the Stillwell name was well known in the community. He was a third-generation owner of the Bill Stillwell Buick dealership, continuing a family legacy built on hard work, integrity, and service.
An avid gun collector, John had a lifelong appreciation for firearms and history. He was an endowment member of the National Rifle Association and took great pride in his membership of the Former Texas Ranger Association, a role he held with deep respect and commitment.
John also greatly enjoyed IndyCar racing, following the sport with enthusiasm and appreciation for its speed, skill, and tradition. Whether watching or participating in a race, it was one of the many interests that brought him genuine joy; a passion that he shared with his devoted wife Peggy.
John served his country in the United States Army from August 24, 1970 to August 23, 1976 when he was honorably discharged after serving in the Vietnam war. His service will forever be remembered.
Above all else, John was a husband, father, and grandfather. His family was the center of his life, and he will be remembered for his steady presence, loyalty, and strength.
He was preceded in death by his beloved parents William H. and Evelyn (nee Baughman) Stillwell, along with his brother Jerry.
John is survived by his loving wife, Peggy Stillwell (née Andersen); his sons, Nathan (Cheryl) Stillwell and William Brook (Stephanie) Stillwell; and his cherished grandchildren, Colton, Connor, Bennett, William, and Victoria. He is also fondly loved by his beloved dogs, Chloe and Evie, who brought him great joy.
A visitation will be held at Blake-Lamb Funeral Home at 5015 Lincoln Ave, Lisle, IL 60532 on Friday February 6, 2026 from 4-8pm with a short service promptly at 6:30pm led by Chuck Lessick from IndyCar Ministry.
Interment at a later date at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery, San Antonio, Texas.
Celebration of Life at a later date at Christ Church of Oakbrook.
