John J. Kroese, age 89 of Downers Grove, IL. Beloved husband of Phyllis Kroese, nee Banks; loving father of Jill (Philip) Aspegren, Kirk (Susan) Kroese, and Brad (Candace) Kroese; devoted grandfather of Skyler, Laramie, Jadmin Aspegren, Sarah, Ryan Kroese, and Owen, Grace, Kathryn, Shane Kroese; preceded in death by siblings, Betty, Bernadine, and Ted; uncle of many nieces and nephews. Born and raised on a farm in Adams, Nebraska, John was unable to attend high school due to his father's death when he was 5 years old. After serving in the Army at the end of World War II, John graduated from Doane College. John left Nebraska and moved to Chicago where he worked for the Ball Corporation as a sales executive. John was a beloved husband of 60 years to Phyllis, an amazing father, and is deeply loved by his nine grandchildren – his "boopers". An active member of the church his entire life, John's faith in God never wavered. John did not know a stranger, he blessed people with his kind heart everywhere he went up until the last moments of his life. Services were held Monday, January 3, 4-8 PM at Knollcrest Funeral Home, 1500 S. Meyers Rd. (3 blocks S of Roosevelt), Lombard, IL. In-State Tuesday, January 4, 10 AM until time of service at 11 AM at Christ Church of Oak Brook, 501 Oak Brook Rd. (corner of York St. and 31st St.). Internment Clarendon Hills Cemetery.
