John Blomberg Obituary

John Richard Blomberg was born March 14, 1935, in Oak Park, Ill., and died on Aug. 12, 2008, at the Cleveland Clinic. John was the son of Eugene and Gladys Blomberg of 720 N. Catherine Ave. in La Grange Park and a 1953 graduate of LTHS. He was a graduate of Colorado School of Mines with a degree in petroleum engineering. He worked with Mobil Oil in Midland, Texas, before taking a job with Pennzoil in Parkersburg, West Virginia. John was very active in community projects and served on the Art Center Board, Library Board and was made an honorary life trustee for his extraordinary work with the Nature Conservancy. He was instrumental in creating the Arboretum at the Parkersburg Library, which was renamed in his honor. He was an active member at St. Margaret Mary Church and a Serra Club member. He was an avid bird watcher and enjoyed gardening and racquetball. Surviving are his brother, Ron; sons, Greg and Eric; daughter, Kathleen; wife, Marcella; and three grandchildren, Alexa, Isabelle and Cade. A memorial service will be held at a future date.
