Joan Wrobel Obituary

Joan Marie Wrobel, 75, of Downers Grove, IL, died July 30, 2011. Joan was born on January 29, 1936 in Chicago, IL. She attended St. Nicholas of Tolentine School in West Lawn and Lourdes High School in Brighton Park. Joan was passionate about music. As a child she learned to play the accordion and later, the organ. She conveyed this passion to her children, and taught them to excel in their musical pursuits. In recent years she was a member of CATOE Chicago Area Theater Organ Enthusiasts, JATOE Joliet Area Theater Organ Enthusiasts and the Chicago Accordion Club. Joan held season tickets, and anxiously anticipated musical theater performances at Drury Lane and classical concerts at the Downers Grove Artist's Showcase. Joan enjoyed travel, and saw much of the world in her adventures. She appreciated good food, and was a wonderful cook and hostess. When it came to plants and people, Joan had a green thumb. She understood how to cultivate and nurture relationships with her calm and kind approach. Her wit and sense of humor made her fun to be around. Spending time with her children and grandchildren gave Joan great joy. She was proud of her heritage and participated in programs at the PRCUA, Polish Cultural Center. Joan attended Our Lady of Peace parish in Darien, where she was a member of the Younger than Ever Seniors. Joan was a loving wife of 50 years to William, devoted mother of Christopher (Margaret), Cynthia (Nigel) Smith, Lisa (Gerald) Stark, Aileen (Mark) Rominger; cherished grandmother of Andrew, Sean, Thomas, Patrick, Jacob, Samuel, and Joseph Wrobel, Adam, Joshua, and Sophia Stark; devoted daughter of the late Andrew and Bernice Jencen, nee Kubiak; beloved sister of Marilyn (Robert) Pfeifer; dear aunt, cousin and friend to many. Visitation Wednesday, August 3, 2011, 3 to 9pm at Modell Funeral Home, 7710 S. Cass Avenue, Darien. Funeral Thursday, August 4, 2011.
