He was born on March 14, 1947 in Monongahela, PA, spent his childhood in Melrose Park, IL, and earned Bachelor's and Master's degrees in music from the Chicago Musical College at Roosevelt University. Daniel was among the kindest and most talented men I have ever met. First I was a student. Then a Madrigal Singer ... (which he cleverly slipped me in as a Junior) ... I was in the Theatre Group with Mr. John Toth ... many Madrigal Dinners. And then a friend after for many years after. I graduated in 1975 from Proviso East ... and went to the Goodman School of Drama after. I enjoyed many successful years as a professional singer, actor and performer ... thanks to him. Once we were rehearsing a very, very hard song ... and all the kids were complaining because "they didn't like it." And he said, "You will learn this ... because it is GOOD for you!" I can still sing "Blow the Candles Out" an Old English Madrigal to this day. Miss you Dan. Brian Vandenbroucke

To me he was a balding choir teacher who wasn´t very friendly and even would get mad at his students. To others he was something more.

Mr. Salotti conducted an arrangement of "A Mighty Fortress is Our God" with choir and flute solo. He was gracious enough to write in my yearbook that my performance had been memorable to him. That comment made a difference in my understanding how music communicates to people, and has been something I've carried with me in my musical life ever since. He was a wonderful teacher, and I am grateful to have known him.

Mr. Salotti was the best teacher I ever had. He inspired my passion for singing- I even got the Mr. Salotti Scholarship my senior year at Glenbard West! His passion has touched so many and the world is a better place because of him. My deepest condolences for his loved ones.

I am very sorry to hear of Mr. Salotti's passing. He was one of my favorite teachers at Proviso East H.S. where I was in his senior Humanities class. He started my interest in opera which has been a great passion in my life; I've been a season ticket holder at Lyric Opera for more than 40 years now, and I credit Mr. Salotti for this. I'd always hoped I'd run into him at some point so I could tell him this, and it saddens me now that it will never happen. Again, please accept my condolences and best wishes.

Dan was a friend and colleague, many years ago, at Proviso East. He later worked with my husband, at Glenbard West. He was a talented musician and a wonderful colleague. But, most importantly, he was an educator who touched so many lives. He was truly dedicated to instilling them with a love for music.

Dr. Salotti was not only a teacher but too many of us he was a father figure he was confident he was an uplifter and he was always encouraging us to give the very best of ourselves. It was an honor to be in his presence it was an honor to be gifted the opportunity to sing with him to have him to teach us how to sing. He inspired us to do more and to be more. He was probably the main reason for many of us that we graduated high school, he will greatly be missed! Blessed to say...I'm a Salotti kid!!

Mr. Salotti was one of the best teachers I ever had. He would not let his students give up on themselves or each other. Before it was a buzz phrase, he created a safe space for us. He helped me graduate from high school and helped me realize I could be anything and everything. I loved him and will miss him so much.

I've known Mr. Salotti for most of my life, since highschool. I'm now in my 60's. He was the best music teacher ever! Mr. Salotti was also kind, funny & supportive; even coming to my mom's funeral. And she just loved him, as did my brother & I. Mr. Salotti was pretty special & will be sorely missed. My sincerest condolences to the family. You'll be in my thoughts & prayers. God Bless you..

Dan was one of the finest people I ever met. We taught together at Proviso for many years and we were close friends ever after. He was a very creative and dedicated teacher and supervisor of many programs and projects. He brought so much to the school and our students. I am so saddened he is gone.

I meet Dan in November of 2021. At that time we were caring for a good friend of ours. We immediately became friends, and I was hoping to continue to be friends. I am so sorry we did not have that chance and hope that he knows how much I valued his friendship. My sympathy to his family and friends. Dan will be missed.

I took lessons from Danny for years through Monti's music studio in Maywood. To say that I learned a great deal about playing would be an understatement. I learned great technique along with an appreciation of the art of playing the keyboards. I spent almost a year mastering Bach's Toccata and Fugue in D Minor- can still play it today. I also would see Danny at Proviso East- although I wasn't a singer- Lane and I were both band kids. Danny always encouraged both of us to stick with it, which really made a difference. I was sad to learn of his passing, especially at a young age. He will e missed.

I considered Dan a great friend. The band rooms were down the hall from me, and we would talk almost everyday. I don't think that I ever met a kinder man in my entire life. I pray that God blesses and gives peace to the Salotti family. Dan, I'll see you in the big classroom in the sky.

I was at Proviso East HS and he was the choir director for the Madrigal Singers -- he was the best choir director I have ever had. He turned us into a high quality choir. Also we had fun -- he was so great to work with. I have very fond memories of him. Best wishes to the family. May you find comfort in loving memories.
