Carole Turlek Obituary

Carole Turlek

Carole Turlek, 65, of Lyons, an avid reader and inquisitive researcher, at rest suddenly, peacefully, surrounded by family, November 29, 2014.

Ms. Turlek, retired KCAL office manager, volunteered weekly St. Hugh bingo, and was an active elected Lyons Library Board Trustee. A long time Chicago Blackhawks fan, Ms. Turlek attended several games each season, and Championship parade. She loved to swim, earned water safety instructor credential and taught swimming at Cermak pool with the Girl Scouts. She enjoyed scuba diving in Venezuela, swimming in Lake Michigan and in her Mentone, California pool in San Bernardino County where she lived for several decades before returning to her roots in Chicago's western suburbs.

Ms.Turlek traveled Europe visiting, Italy, Spain and Switzerland in 1969; touring Eastern Europe 1993 with DePaul University, the group witnessed in Moscow, Russia's first post-Soviet free election; they celebrated 4th of July picnic with United States ambassador in Kiev, Ukraine. Ms. Turlek studied at Beloit College, Wisconsin after graduating a National Merit Scholar from Morton West High School in 1967. She enjoyed travel and sightseeing both natural and historical, from the waterfalls of Starved Rock State Park to Death Valley and Disneyland, from the Kremlin to Yalta, from French Colonial Missouri to Manitowoc Maritime Museum. Morton Arboretum in autumn and Brookfield Zoo Lights at Christmas were local favorites. In reality, in person, through reading, on the internet, Ms. Turlek consistently engaged her world.

Ms. Turlek is survived by her brothers, Stephen (the late Patricia Sullivan), Donald (Christina); and sister, Teresa; she is the loving Aunt of Michelle (Eric) Rank and Sharon (Michael) Tanner; loving Great Aunt to Rachel and Aaron Rank; beloved niece of George (Jackie) Kucharchuk; loving cousin to Kristine and Jeffrey, Irene, Janet and dear to 2nd cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Michael and Gloria Turlek; uncles, Raymond Kucharchuk, John, Stephen, and Joseph Turlek; cousin Helen.

In lieu of flowers, memorials appreciated to St. Hugh Parish, 7939 43rd St, Lyons, IL 60534, to Friends of your Library, or the charity of your choice.

Please accept my condolences, love and prayers for Caroles passing.

I went to the Morton West 50th Reunion on Oct. 13, 2017, hoping to re-connect with Carole and was devastated to learn she had passed.

We were very close in high school and ate lunch together every day for all four years.

I regret losing touch with her after graduation and am deeply sorry that I will not get to see her again in this life.

Im glad that she spent her life doing things she loved.

She will remain in my memory with fondness and love, until we meet again in our Fathers house.

God bless you all.
