Carol Schaidler Obituary

Carol Schaidler

Born: Feb. 15, 1943; in Ottawa, IL

Died: Nov. 15, 2015; in Wauwatosa, WI

Carol Osman Schaidler died quietly in her sleep Sunday morning, November 15, 2015, at the Vitas Medical Center Hospice in Wauwatosa, Wisconsin.

She had fought health battles against severe odds since 1999. Carol was born on February 15, 1943, in Ottawa, Illinois the daughter of William Osman and Arlene Hodgson Osman. She graduated from Mercy Hospital School of Nursing in Oshkosh, Wisconsin and became a registered nurse. Carol married John A. Schaidler on August 31, 1963, and celebrated her fifty-second year of that marriage this past August.

Carol and John have four children and nine grandchildren from their union with John J. Schaidler and James (Karla) Schaidler now residing in Minneapolis. Daughter, Elizabeth Schaidler lives in Neenah and her sister, Catherine (Brad) Immanuel resides in Foster City, California.

Carol was in the forefront of many medical concepts long before they were popular. She taught Lamaze (natural) childbirth while working with local obstetricians. These classes were often taught in her home when many doctors doubted the benefits of natural childbirth. Lamaze has since moved into the main stream of modern medicine. Carol also provided individualized Hospice care for patients long before that concept went main stream. She did much of this work on a pro bono basis. She also believed in putting into practice what she preached and gave birth to two children by natural childbirth and belonged to the LaLeche League which advocated nursing children using God Given breast milk. She loved infants and worked hard helping nursing Mothers and pregnant women to overcome their fears and provide natural means to birth and rear children.

While Carol's vocation was medicine her avocation was the care and breeding of animals of all types, Carol raised Siamese cats as well as Golden Retriever Dogs. This effort brought her into contact with many people that had animal concerns and problems. Carol provided advice, consul and care instructions as well as directions about finding reduced cost preventative measures. Carol did all of that without compensation because she loved animals. As a child she wanted to become a veterinarian but at the time vet school was virtually limited to male applicants. So Carol chose nursing school as an alternative but never left her love for animals very far behind.

A memorial service for Carol will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 5, 2015, at Valley Baptist Church, 3600 Chippewa St., Appleton with Rev. Larry Creamer officiating. Friends may call directly at church from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established.

Dear John and family,

I am truly sorry to hear about your loss. I still remember Carol's outgoing spirit and love for animals. She came to our home multiple times to help administer medication to our cat, Snuggles. She had such a caring heart. I hope you can find peace in knowing that Carol's suffering is over; she is now at peace with God in heaven.

With love and prayers,

Treva Hanford
