William Totten Obituary

William McCormick TOTTEN May 4,1918 - September 29,2005 Bill was born May 4, 1918 in Ft. Sill, OK, where his father was stationed in the army. Shortly after his birth, his family returned to Seattle where he spent the rest of his life, attending Ravenna Grade School, Roosevelt HS and UW. He received a BA in business in 1941 and his JD in law after his return from his three years of WWII service in N. Africa and Italy with the Army Air Corps. Bill retired in 1986 as Vice President and Corporate Secretary after a 48 year career with Washington Mutual. He was active in numerous civic, community and professional associations. He was a member of Washington State Bar Association, Phi Delta Phi Legal Honorary, UW Alumni, American Institute of Bankers, American Society of Corporate Secretaries, University Masonic Lodge, and Nile Temple Shrine. He was a board member and/or past Chair of several organizations including the American Heart Association of Seattle, Seattle Chamber of Commerce Armed Forces Committee, Seattle Credit Association, Puget Sound USO, and the US Army Association. Bill was extremely loyal to family and friends and was a devoted father. He enjoyed family outings, camping, hiking, boating, fishing, bird watching and participating in the Shrine Parades as a clown and in the Oriental Band. He was loved for his good humor, sense of fun and gentleness. He is survived by Mary, his loving wife of 34 years, his devoted daughters Cheryl Totten Grant and Patricia Totten (Gary Lawrence), granddaughters Courtney (Josh) Schoenwald and Darcy Grant, his sister Doris Totten Chase and nephews, Randy (Nancy) Chase and Gary Chase. He was preceded in death by his son, William Totten, Jr., who died in a climbing accident. He is also survived by Charlotte Willis Totten, the mother of his children. The family wish to thank the caring and devoted nursing and spiritual care staff of Horizon House Supportive Living and Hospice. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Shriner's Crippled Children's Hospital or Horizon House Residents Assistance Fund. Memorial Services will be held at Horizon House, October 23rd, 1:30 p.m., reception to follow.
