William J. Gurney
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of William Gurney, on August 19, 2023, at the age of 80. He passed away surrounded by his loved ones after a long and courageous fight against cancer.
Born in Chicago, William was known for his incredible work ethic, devotion to family, and commitment to excellence in all things personal and professional. He loved traveling the world, enjoying cars, working out and, was a breakfast cereal connoisseur.
He is survived by devoted wife of 55 years, Ruth A. Gurney, née Wegerson; loving children Bryan (Melinda) Gurney and Erin (Patrick McDermott) Gurney; and dearest grandchildren Maxine, Logan, and multiple four-legged grandkids. He is also remembered by cherished brothers Donald (Edna), Dennis (Patricia), and Terrence (Kathleen) Gurney; loyal gym buddies Carl and David; fellow U.S. National Guard families the Murphy's, Antongiovanni's, Anselmo's, and Gradisca's; worthy Scrabble adversary of Glen and Kristine Schlechter; and fond uncle and friend to many.
William was the proud owner of Accurate Felt and Gasket, Mfg., a company whose success he helped build and grow over the course of nearly 60 years. He began his career as a set-up person and-always the overachiever-worked his way up to owner of the business.
