William Patrick Cullen

William Patrick Cullen, formerly of Denison, Iowa, for 50 years, passed away May 8, 2017, at Mercy Hospital South in Clinton, Iowa, after living at Bickford Assisted Living Facility in Clinton since October. His beloved wife of nearly 66 years, Mary Jean (Waters) preceded him in death in May, 2015.

Funeral services will be at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Denison at 10:30 A.M., on May 25, 2017, with a luncheon to follow in the church hall.

Bill was born on July 6, 1924, in Cass County, Iowa, to Lawrence Edward Cullen and Alice Marie (Morrison) Cullen. He grew up on the family farm with four sisters and two brothers, who also preceded him in death. Bill served in the Navy on the USS Vicksburg in World War II as a radar operator and was a proud American. Bill managed the Farm Service Co-op in Denison for thirty years. He maintained his interest and involvement in the company after his retirement, by being active on the Board of Directors for Co-op for ten more years. Bill and Mary bought the Ho Hum Motel in 1971. Mary managed the motel until Bill's retirement, but they both were quite involved in their business through the years. Bill was very active in the Denison community and St. Rose of Lima. He served as President of Toastmasters and a Representative for the Northwest Region. He sang in St. Rose of Lima choir for many years, was in the Knights of Columbus, was a lector, and an usher there, as well. He was past president of Kiwanis and Golden K and a long time member. As a veteran, he was a member of the American Legion and the VFW.

Bill is survived by his loving children, Judy (Jim) Renner of Lake Zurich, IL, Nancy Cullen and her husband, Jeff Klopfenstein of Waukee, Ia., Phil (Marta) Cullen of Downers Grove, IL, and Pat (Michele) Cullen of Clinton, IA. He will be missed by his grandchildren, Matthew (Deirdre) Renner, Ann (Steven) Creaney, Brent Brockway, Blake (Sonia) Brockway, Barbara Brockway, Will (Klaudia) Cullen, Alex Cullen, Krista Cullen, Rob Cullen, and Jenna Cullen. He was also blessed with 5 great grandchildren.
