William Byrne Obituary

Dr. William G. Byrne
Born: March 8, 1930
Died: April 24, 2024
Dr. William G. Byrne, beloved by his family and friends, passed away on April 24, 2024.
A Chicago native born on March 8, 1930, Bill served in the United States Air Force and the United States National Guard from 1948 to 1953. He earned a Ph.D. in Anthropology from Northwestern University and taught for the Chicago City Colleges. He pioneered a television-based distance learning program, experimented with educational computer simulations, and authored study guides for leading introductory textbooks. Fascinated by his own family's history, he spent nearly 40 years conducting genealogical research, even serving as the leader of the Clan Byrne USA. In his spare time, he built and flew radio-controlled airplanes and read voraciously.
A devoted family man, he is survived by his wife, Mollie Hibbard, two sons from his first marriage (Bryan and Richard), and three stepdaughters (Cathy, Susan, and Carol) from his second marriage, as well as their own loving families.
Interment private. Arrangements by Adams-Winterfield & Sullivan Funeral Home. Information 630-968-1000 or www.adamswinterfieldsullivan.com.
