Virginia Scatterday Obituary

Virginia Kraft Scatterday

Born: December 5, 1931

Died: January 18, 2017

Virginia Kraft Scatterday, born December 5, 1931 in Geneva, IL and passed at 85 years young on January 18, 2017 after suffering a severe stroke. Ginny was brought into the world by her beloved parents Melvin and Ruth (MacArthur) Kraft. She was blessed as the middle daughter with two dearly loved sisters; Arline (late William) Buettin of Naples, FL and Sylvia (Robert) Walker of Seminole, FL.

Ginny had a life well lived and was a woman that was well loved. She grew up in Batavia and showed her life-long determination early as she earned the honor of class co-valedictorian from Batavia High School in 1949. Ginny entered DePauw University in Greencastle, IN. As fate would have it a young man, John Scatterday, on the GI Bill after serving in the South Pacific in WWII, was also enrolled at DePauw. Ginny and John became college sweethearts and married in 1950 leading to a legacy of 56 love laced years of marriage.

Ginny and John started their married life in Peoria, then Chicago and settled in Glen Ellyn for 40 years. They moved to St. Charles upon retirement.

Ginny worked as the secretary at Glenbard South High School, helping to coordinate and open the school in 1972. She then went on to become the managing broker at Baird & Warner in Glen Ellyn. She prospered there for 12 years. Her inspiring talent was only exceeded by her passion of truly caring about helping those who became her clients.

Ginny, known for her infectious laugh by all who touched her life, was an eternal optimist. She was kind and found the good in others. Ginny's passion for life was fueled by her joy of family: her loving husband, John; children, Ann (John) Peterselli of Glen Ellyn, Dave (Marty) Scatterday of West Chicago, Doug (Dawn) Scatterday of Tuscola, IL, and Carol (Mark) Scatterday Kase of North Aurora; grandchildren, Ben (Nikki) Peterselli, Zach (Natalie) Peterselli, Emily (Brad) Holehan, Johnny Peterselli, Becca (Dane) Lockhart, Amy Peterselli, Brad Scatterday, Sarah Scatterday, Hannah Scatterday, Luke Peterselli, Claire Scatterday, Emma Scatterday, Andy Wenzel and Kelly Wenzel; step-grandchildren, Blake Stokes, Paige Stokes, Kristy Staky and Rachel Staky; great-grandchildren, Grayson Peterselli, Eli Peterselli, Genevieve "Little Ginny" Peterselli, Jude Peterselli and Zeke Lockhart. She was also thrilled to be the aunt of four nephews and six nieces and a "second" mom to the Hayes and Dickelman kids.

Ginny cherished her friends: college pot-luck group, GE Bridge Club, GE church coffee group, neighbors in Glen Ellyn and St. Charles, and many others. She enjoyed entertaining and loved a house full of friends and family. Her cross stitch needle work adorns the walls of those she loved. She traveled to many places in the world and went to her cabin in Indiana as often as possible.

Ginny's positive spirit and love of life will be with us always. She is preceded in death by her parents; husband John Scatterday; and beautiful daughter, Ann Peterselli.
