Violet Schmidt Obituary

Violet Esther Sophia Danielson Schmidt, 92, Passed away peacefully on September 26, 2012. A 50-year resident of Indian Head Park, Vi was born in Chicago in 1920 to Carl and Ebba Carlson Danielson, who immigrated to the United States from Sweden as young adults. Vi graduated from Calumet High School as salutatorian and editor of the Calumet Crier and attended the University of Chicago on an academic scholarship. In 1940, she married Robert William Schmidt at St. Matthew's Lutheran Church in Chicago. She helped him as he founded Industrial Measurement and Control Corporation (now Copar Corporation). In 1960, the couple moved to Indian Head Park. They also enjoyed summers in Door County where they were active in Shepherd of the Bay Lutheran Church. Vi was a 50-year member of Grace Lutheran Church in LaGrange, where she was a member of Ruth's Circle, and she was a member of the American Daughters of Sweden. Vi is survived by her husband of 72 years, Robert, her daughter Carol Rebholz of Milwaukee, WI, son Stephen (Gail) Schmidt of Indian Head Park, and five grandchildren: Kristin Rebholz, Claire (Robb Scheele) Rebholz, Katherine Rebholz, Michael Schmidt, and David Schmidt, and two nieces Penny (Arden) Sult and Susan (Robert) Graff. Burial will be private. A memorial service celebrating her life will be held at Plymouth Place (315 N. LaGrange Road, LaGrange Park, IL 60526) on October 7 at 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to the Alzheimer's Association (Alzheimers.org).
