Thomas Kennedy Obituary
THOMAS DANIEL KENNEDY Thomas Daniel Kennedy passed away at age 95 on September 1, 2013, in McHenry, Illinois surrounded by his children. Thomas was born May 27, 1918, to Thomas Joseph and Ida Louise (Stokes) Kennedy in Chicago, Illinois. Thomas married his sweetheart Florence Irene Hartney, at Our Lady Help of Christians on May 10, 1941. To this union five children were born. Thomas and Florence were married for over 70 years before Florence 's passing on February 22, 2012. Thomas worked at Hartney Oil Company from 1938-1948 and then started his own business, Kennedy Brothers Oil Company, with his brother William. They shared this business from 1948 through 1978. Thomas and Florence lived in Chicago, Elmhurst and Bartlett Illinois before retiring to Sarasota, Florida. While living in Elmhurst, Thomas was very active in Immaculate Conception parish and was also an alderman in the First Ward from 1965 to 1971. Thomas is survived by his five children, Sharon (John) Neville of Estero, Florida, Sharyl Kennedy (Robert Fritsch) of Kansas City, Kansas; Sheila (Donald) Pankros of Glen Ellyn, Illinois; Thomas (Susan) Kennedy of Sparta, New Jersey and Timothy (Kelly) Kennedy of Johnsburg, Illinois. He is also survived by his sister, Margaret Jenkins, of Miami Shores, Florida. Thomas was also blessed with eleven grandchildren, Christine (Dr. Preston) Peacock, Colleen (Kenneth) Keeley, Captain Edward (Michelle) Butzirus, Thomas Butzirus, Joel (Marceline) Pankros, David (Dr. Julie Wei) Pankros, Brooke (Steven) Cashion, Shannon (Daniel) Lombreglia, Christopher Kennedy, Timothy Kennedy and Meaghan Kennedy and sixteen great grandchildren. As an expression of sympathy, the family suggests memorial contributions to support students with learning disabilities be sent to Horizon Academy, 4901 Reinhardt Drive, Ste. A, Roeland Park, Kansas 66205. A celebration of life mass will be held at Immaculate Conception, 134 Arthur St., Elmhurst, Illinois, on September 21, 2013, at 10:00 a.m.
