Teryce Chapman Obituary

CHUCKATUCK - Teryce Garnell Holland Chapman, 87, passed away Friday, March 17, 2006. A native of Nansemond County, Va., she had lived in Chuckatuck most of her life. Garnell was the daughter of the late Junius W. and Iola Lewis Holland. Garnell was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was an active and beloved member of Oakland Christian Church, where she taught Sunday School, and was the past president of the Newman Bible Class. Garnell was also active with the church youth group. In addition to her parents, Garnell was preceded in death by her husband, Daniel Webster Chapman Sr.; three sisters, Mary Scott, Blanche West and Junie Forrest; and a brother, Jack Holland. She leaves to cherish her memories three daughters, Nancy C. Spady and her husband, Jack, of Chesapeake, Shirley C. Martin and her husband, Bobby, of Ivor and Evelyn C. Jones and her husband, Cecil, of Front Royal, Va.; a son, Daniel W. Chapman and his wife, Terri, of Desmoines, Wash.; a sister, Iola H. Saunders and her husband, Jerry, of Chuckatuck; 10 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. A funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday, March 20, in Oakland Christian Church, Chuckatuck, with the Rev. Mark Burns and the Rev. Cecil Jones officiating. Burial will follow in Newman Memorial Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 4 to 5 p.m. Sunday in Colonial Funeral Home, Smithfield, and at other times at the home of the sister. The family suggests memorials to the Becky Godwin Scholarship Fund, c/o Oakland Christian Church, P.O. Box 2008, Suffolk, VA 23432. Arrangements are in the care of Colonial Funeral Home, Smithfield.
