Susan Anderson Obituary

Dr. Anderson was an amazing and impactful teacher. She was one of our favorite Hillcrest educators. She understood her students well and knew how to push and find their potential. She really cared about her kids well after they left her classroom. We are so blessed to have had her in our lives.

So sorry to hear of your loss. Sue was just a fun gal and I loved working with her at Herrick and union events. She will be missed. I was the principals secretary.

Sue and I shared good times as Alpha Phis at NU. She was a great sister and will be missed by many A-Phis.

Sue & I were in the doctoral program at the same time at National Louis University. It was wonderful to share reading ideas and stories about the children that we were teaching! Not long afterwards, I joined to board of the Illinois Language & Literacy Council. Sue was one of the leaders who organized the Young Authors' Conference every May in Normal. It was such a joy to work with Sue through the years on this conference. She will be dearly missed by her colleagues, friends, parents, children, and the authors, and illustrators of Illinois. She was a truly gifted educator! We will miss you, Sue.

Dr. Anderson cared for my two kids that had her for 3rd grade. She was very supportive of the Partners in Art program and encouraged kids to do their best. Wherever you may be now, I thank you so much for touching the lives of my children and many others in a positive way! My deepest condolences to her family and friends- I am sad for your loss.

Sue made a positive difference in the lives of so many children. There’s no better gift to stow upon our youth! Thank you, my friend.

Sue was a longtime member of our executive board and served with commitment and pride. Her dedication to education was exemplary. She will be sorely missed, but her legacy will live on. May God bless Sue and her family.

Sue was a devoted Alpha Phi sister and NU fan! She gave untold hours to the Beta House Board. She will be missed at Homecoming!
I always enjoyed hearing her stories about her young students. She loved them so, and clearly was a very special teacher.

I had the pleasure of meeting Sue at Herrick Middle School. I taught reading with her and learned a great deal from her. She was so easy to talk to and very kind. She always made me feel at ease. I am so very sorry and sad that she has left us.

We were so very blessed that Dr. Anderson was our son´s third grade teacher. Dist 99 has lost a great educator, who possessed the rare attributes of exceptional technical knowledge, sincere compassion for her students, and the passion to give both every day. Dr. Anderson set the gold standard for education. Please accept our sincere condolences.

I was lucky enough to assist in Sue´s classroom for part of a semester and to bring students with some special needs into her classroom. Her love for her students was very evident. She always had such complimentary things to say about them. She was so supportive of them, and myself. And so very proud of all the accomplishments they made. She will be so missed. I worked with Sue as a volunteer with the House Corporation Board of Alpha Phi at Northwestern. Her passion for NU and for the women of Alpha Phi was evident, and she worked tirelessly while holding down her demanding job at Hillcrest. She was a determined and strong leader and a teacher with a caring heart, and she will be missed.

My son Tej was in Dr. Anderson's 4th grade class and it was our 1st year at Hillcrest . Her kindness, empathy and support enabled a shy boy with special needs to open up and share his personality with the class. She had a writing program in which the kids would share a running diary with her and it was a joy to hear what Tej was sharing with her. Also, she once mistook me as the nanny and that will always warm my 40 year old heart :) She had a gift and our son was so lucky to have her as a teacher. She will be missed and I hope knowing the legacy she leaves will easy your burden during this difficult time.

I was so fortunate to work with Sue. I was her teacher´s assistant for two of those years. Sue and I would constantly giggle in her room. Her sense of humor enlightened everyone she came in contact with. She worked well with all kids and her love for teaching shined daily!! I will miss our daily conversations. May you Rest In Peace Sue. I will miss u so much!!!

My son had Dr. Anderson. I know what a great job she took in teaching her students and specifically how much she loved reading with them. Please know that many children were encouraged to read through her enthusiasm! We will keep you in our prayers during this difficult time.

Dr. Anderson was an amazing teacher at Hillcrest. She was one of the few teachers that really challenged my boys in math. They really enjoyed her teaching style. Sending our deepest condolences to her family and friends. God be with you.

Dr Anderson was a special human being and we are so grateful that our son, Liam, had her as his 4th grade teacher. She instilled a love of reading in all of her students and her legacy lives on in each and every one of them. Our thoughts and prayers are with you all.

Sue was a dear cousin of mine. We grew up together with Barbie as our Fathers worked together building dams. I have precious memories of all of us being in the Lodi Grape festival parade. Our moms made our costumes and we had a batting routine that was so much fun. And we also lived in a very nice trailer park. And we would put on a play for all that lived there Sue always was the director and made the plays so much fun. And then there was our Barbie dolls. We had wagons full of them and would move from house to house setting up and playing for hours. As we got older we kind of moved on with our separate lives but each year we would exchange Christmas letters about our lives and families. She was a great lady and an example of perfection in what it is you decide to do with your life. May she REST IN PEACE. And May God comfort her family and friends. She was loved by many and will be missed.

I will miss Sue tremendously. She was kind enough to be my friend and share her wisdom, humor, and stories! Sue was a great story teller! I am so grateful for our time together at Hillcrest Elementary. God bless her family.

I only knew Sue for this past year at Hillcrest. The love she had for her family was so evident even in the short time I was able to get to know her. Her face lit up talking about her grandkids. She will be so missed!
