Stanley A. Zajac, age 94, of Forest View, Illinois passed away on Tuesday, June 8, 2021. Stanley was born on October 18, 1926.
Loving husband of the late Alice B. Zajac. Beloved father of Michael (the late Elly) Zajac, Kenneth (the late Vickie) Zajac and Donna Zajac (Rob) Blecha.
Cherished grandfather of Robyn Blecha (Bob) Wyant,
Amy Blecha Engelbach, Ryan (Heather) Blecha, Christy Zajac and great-grandfather of Haley Wyant, Brady Wyant and Ethan
Engelbach and a great-grandchild on the way.
Mr. Zajac is a WWII veteran, having served with the Army Air Force, 1944 to 1946, in the Philippines and the subsequent occupation of Japan after their surrender. After the war he returned to work at Western Electric, in Cicero, Illinois, as a layout operator foreman, retiring in 1986, after 42 years. He was a member of the Hawthorne Fishing & Hunting Club and the Hawthorne Camping Club for many years holding many positions from Treasurer to President. Mr. Zajac and his wife Alice moved to Forest View, Illinois, in 1953, where he was active in the community including time as a volunteer fireman, police radio operator, Police and Fire commissioner and a village trustee. He also was a Polish interpreter for the Police Dept. He was also a past president of the Forest View Golden Panthers, a club for active seniors. Forest View was his residence until his passing in 2021. As a veteran he was also active with the local American Legion, assisting with various food drives and other volunteer work. In 1999 he was given the Cook County Sheriff's Award for the Spirit of Volunteerism for his active work in the community. In 2010 Mr. Zajac was one of many WWII veterans to participate in the Honor Flight to Washington D.C.
In 2014 Mr. Zajac was an honoree of the Archdiocese of Chicago Christifideles Award, conferred by Archbishop Francis Cardinal George. A representative of each church in the archdiocese is chosen who has demonstrated exceptional service to their church. Mr. Zajac was chosen to represent his church St. Pius X., in Stickney, Illinois. He and his wife Alice were one of the founding members of the church in 1954, where he was also an usher for 56 years.
Visitation Sunday, June 13, 2021 from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Mount Auburn Funeral Home, 4101 S. Oak Park Ave, Stickney, IL 60402 (708) 749-2033.
Funeral Service Monday, June 14, 2021 chapel prayers at 9:00 a.m. followed by 10:00 a.m. Mass at St. Pius X Church, 4300 Oak Park Avenue, Stickney, IL 60402.
Interment Resurrection Cemetery, 7200 Archer Rd., Justice, IL 60458. Proper social distancing must be practiced and all guests will be required to wear face masks.
