Family-Placed Obituary

SARA DEACON ALCORN POWELL 93. Mrs. Powell, the daughter of Benjamin Harold Deacon and Sara Ayres Deacon was born February 12, 1915 on the Main Line of Philadelphia and lived there all her life. The last 30 years she was also a resident of Palm Beach Florida. Mrs. Powell was an expert on interior and architectural design and was well known as Sally Alcorn. She designed and built many houses in Florida, Philadelphia, New Jersey and San Francisco. Her work was seen in "The Designer", "Palm Beach LIfe" and "Architectural Digest." She was also featured in "Women's Who's Who of America" in 1977 and 1978. Mrs. Powell attended Moore College of Art and the University of Pennsylvania Architectural School. She was a Member of the Merion Cricket Club, Merion Golf Club, Bay Head Yacht Club and the Beach Club of Palm Beach. She was twice married, first to Stuart Alcorn; with whom she had two daughters, Sara and Barbara; and later to John G. Powell. She is survived by three grandchildren, Deacon Webster of New York, Sara M Webster of New York, and John A Cunningham of Philadelphia. A service will be held at the Bryn Mawr Presbyterian Church on Friday, August 8 at 11 am. In lieu of flowers please send donations in memory of Sara D.
