Sandra Price Obituary

Sandra W. Price (nee Wheat) died at home in LaGrange, IL on July 17 2009. Born in Darby, PA on Feb 7, 1943, and educated at Pomona College and Harvard University , she taught history and psychology at Oak Park and River Forest High School in Oak Park , IL from 1984 to 2003. She particularly enjoyed her role as faculty adviser to the Science Fiction and Fantasy Club. She was the wife of Lawrence Price of LaGrange, IL, and mother of Matthew Price of Portland, OR and Jeffrey Price of San Mateo, CA. She had one granddaughter, Eleanor Sandra Price of Portland, OR. She is also survived by her sister Judith Mullan of Los Angeles, CA. A born student and teacher, she loved travel and other paths to learning. She enthusiastically visited and learned about China, Japan, India, and most of Western Europe, often providing new facts to those providing tours. She and her husband lived in France next to Geneva , Switzerland from 2005 to 2008. It was there that she was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in August 2008, just before moving back to LaGrange. Friends and loved ones remember her joyous smile and infectious laugh, innate generosity, and amazing fund of knowledge. Her positive engagement with life continued unabated throughout her illness. Friends are invited to a memorial service to be held at the Unitarian Church of Hinsdale, 11 W. Maple St , Hinsdale , IL , on Saturday, August 8 2009 at 11:00 am. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network, 2141 Rosecrans Ave, Suite 7000 , El Segundo , CA 90245
