Ruth J. Swacina

Ruth Janette Swacina, 88 of 154. N. Artizan St., Williamsport, MD, passed from this life into the eternal care of her loving Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, on Thursday, January 22, 2015. Her death was the result of complications from vascular dementia that she battled with for over 7 years.
Born February 3, 1926, in Berwyn, IL to the late Fred E. Swanson and Maude E. (Purkheiser) Swanson, where she lived until 1976. She was the loving and loyal wife of her devoted and caring husband, Robert Floyd Swacina for almost 42 years.
Together they raised four children whom they loved dearly, David M. (Margaret) Swacina of Williamsport, MD, LTC Daniel J. (COL Kathleen) Swacina of Fayetteville, GA, Paul J. Swacina Esq. of Victoria, TX, and Deborah R. Rose of Olathe, KS; dearest grandmother of Matthew (Mandace) Swacina of Kentwood, MI, Amy Swacina of Valencia, Spain, Peter (Sara) Swacina of Williamsport, MD, Dr. Virginia (Justin) White of San Diego, CA, Amber (John) Chamberlain of Lewiston, ME, and Austin Swacina of Victoria, TX. Great Grandmother of Rachel and Danielle White, Emerson Swacina, Dominic Chamberlain and Lyla Swacina; dear sister of the late Kermit (Jean) Swanson and fond aunt to many nieces and nephews.
Ruth was preceded in death by her parents, brother and husband.
She was a 1943 graduate of Morton (East) High School and was an active member of the Oak Park Ave. Baptist Church in Berwyn, IL for 26 years, teaching Sunday school and caring for children in the nursery. From 1976 to 1991 she resided with her family in Pocatello, ID where she faithfully attended and was active in the First Baptist Church of Pocatello and worked for Farmers Insurance Group.
Upon her retirement from Farmers, Ruth moved to Williamsport, MD to be nearer to family and grandchildren. She was an active member of Virginia Ave. Baptist Church and an avid spectator of many dance recitals and sporting events in Williamsport with her family. She enjoyed reading and sewing and was extremely active as a volunteer with Cedar Ridge Children's Home and School, Inc. for more than 13 years. She enjoyed traveling the country visiting her other children and grandchildren, living for periods of time with family in Oklahoma, Texas, Missouri, and Kansas before returning to reside at the Twin Oaks Assisted Living and Williamsport Nursing Home for the past 7 years.
Services will be at Woodlawn Funeral Home and Cemetery at 7750 W. Cermak Rd. in Forest Park, IL on Saturday, January 31, 2015, at 3:00 p.m. Visitation will be from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. prior to the service. Interment will be held privately at Woodlawn Cemetery. There will be a second special memorial service held on Sunday, February 15, at 2:00 p.m. at Tri-State Fellowship Ev. Free Church on 13153 Cearfoss Pike in Hagerstown, MD with Dr. Randy Buchman officiating.
