Ruth Ritter

Ruth Ritter was born Ruth Irene Jackson, on June 13, 1921, to Herbert and Margaret Jackson in Chicago, IL. She grew up in Chicago and graduated from Farragut High School in 1938. She worked at Montgomery Wards for a few years, and married Louis Edward Ritter on April 19, 1941.

After serving as a pilot in WWII, Louis, often known as Ed, worked first at Sears Roebuck and later at General Services Administration for the US Government. Ruth was very active in Masonic Activities where she met her husband and was a Queen in Job's Daughters. Ruth and Ed moved from Berwyn to Downers Grove in August of 1951. Ruth was a homemaker and had one son, Bruce. She served as a Den mother for Cub Scouts, a Team mother for Little League, and Pony League Baseball and was an active member of the grade school PTA. She has been a regular member of the First Presbyterian Church of Downers Grove since 1951 and attended often until 2013 when her health prevented her from attending.

Ruth was preceded in death by her 2 sisters, Dorothy and Ethel; and her brother, Earl. Ruth lost her husband in August of 2010 after 69 years of marriage.

Visitation Thursday, January 29th, 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.. Funeral Friday, January 30th, 10:00 a.m. at Adams-Winterfield & Sullivan Funeral Home, 4343 Main St. (1 blk. S. of Ogden) Downers Grove. Interment Private.
