Rudolph J. Skul, Jr.
Rudolph "Rudy" J. Skul Jr., passed away peacefully on January 2, 2022, at the age of 89 in his hometown of Downers Grove, IL. He was born in Joliet, IL to Rudolph Sr. and Katheryn (Umek) Skul and lived a long fulfilling life as a loving and devoted Husband, Father, Grandfather (Papa), and Great Papa.
Growing up in Joliet, Rudy thrived in school and on the basketball court. He graduated from Joliet Township High School top of his class, then attended Joliet Junior College and Northern Illinois University where he played basketball for the Huskies, was a member of Theta Kappa Phi, and received his undergraduate degree. Rudy enlisted in the Army serving in the 502nd Engineering division out of Fort Carson (Colorado Springs, CO), for two years, then in the Reserves for three. He returned to Northern Illinois to receive his Master's in Education. During his return to Northern, he met his loving wife Mary Anna Schoening.
Rudy devoted his career to education, teaching Accounting and Typing first at Downers Grove North High School, then at Downers South where he was head of the Business Department and retired with over 35-years of dedicated service. Throughout his career, he was actively involved with the Board of Education, coaching and officiating, and was a founding member of DuPage Schools Credit Union. Rudy was a devoted Catholic and served as Usher for more than 20-years at Divine Savior Parish. He enjoyed traveling, tinkering in the yard, and spending time with family.
Rudolph is survived by his loving wife of 63-years, Mary Anna, his children Tom (Lisa) Skul, John (Jeanne) Skul, Suzanne (Tony) Litwinchuk; grandchildren, Mackenzie (Anson) Bonte, Brad (Nicole) Skul, Kirstie Skul, Tara (Jake) Traxler, Mitch (Kara) Skul, Allison (Adam) Welte, AJ (Katy) Litwinchuk, Kyle Litwinchuk; great-grandchildren, Oliver Skul, Adler Bonte, Rex Traxler, Peyton Skul, Leo Skul, Benny Skul; and Rudy's dear brother Bernard. He was a strong-handed but extremely gentle and generous man that cared deeply for his family and friends. "Rudy, Dad, Papa/Great Papa you are truly missed."
Visitation Sunday, January 9th, 2:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. Funeral Monday, January 10th, 9:30 a.m. from Adams-Winterfield & Sullivan Funeral Home, 4343 Main St. (1 Blk. So. of Ogden Ave.), Downers Grove, IL 60515 to Divine Savior Church. Funeral Mass 10:30 a.m. Interment Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery.
