Roy William Sears

Roy Sears Obituary

Roy William Sears, age 68 of Verona, WI and formerly of Sandwich, Illinois, passed away peacefully at HospiceCare Center in Fitchburg, WI with his family by his side. Roy was born on August 8th, 1939 in Tupper Lake, New York to Amelia (Mallet) and Dorise Sears. Roy joined the United States Marine Corps, serving his country from 1956 - 1958. He married Marlene Ross on February 10th, 1960. Together, they raised a family and started their own vending business in Woodridge and Sandwich, Illinois, wintering and enjoying retirement in Davenport, Florida. An avid golfer, Roy achieved every golfer's dream, "A Hole in One," and he did it twice. Roy loved his family and friends, especially his 17 grandchildren and his seven great-grandchildren. His greatest joy was being in his RV and traveling around the countryside with his wife, Marly, at his side. Roy owned and operated Regional Coin Systems for over 32 years. He was a great businessman and believed in his word and handshake. Roy helped many, many businesses and people out along the way. We will miss his great smile and twinkle in his eyes. Roy is survived by his wife of 48 years, Marlene Sears; his six children: Vicky (Jerry) Gordon, Michael (Debbi) Sears, Lisa (Chris) Rolli, Matthew Sears, Marty (Connie) Sears, and Jason (Emily) Sears; his 17 grandchildren; and his 7 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother, Robert (Lenore) Sears, his sister, Denise Thall, and his sister, Pauline (Jim) Brooks; many nieces, nephews, and his special group of friends in Sandwich and Florida. Roy was preceded in death by his parents, Amelia & Dorise Sears; a sister, Jean Strack; in-laws Agnes and Ernest Ross; a sister-in-law, Linnea Jackson; and a son-in-law, Richard Riha. For anyone who knew Roy Sears, we think you would appreciate knowing his battle with cancer was courageous and hard-fought. We can also tell you for certain that HE chose the day to leave his body and start his new journey, cancer did not... Memorial Services will be held at 6:30 pm on Wednesday, March 19, 2008 at ELLESTAD FUNERAL HOME, 500 N 8th Street, Mt Horeb, WI, with Fr Rick Heilman officiating. Friends may call from 3:30 pm - 6:15 pm on Wednesday prior to the services at Ellestad Funeral Home. Burial and Full Military Honors will be at Eastside Cemetery at a later date. A special thank you to the staff at HospiceCare for their kind care and support. Arrangements by Ellestad Funeral Home, Mt Horeb, WI. (608) 437-5077

Our hearts are broken that we have lost a truly great friend. Roy and Marlene were a very special part of our Osprey Point group. Our birthday parties are not the same without our dear friends. We could always depend on Roy for lots of stories and laughter.
John and Tom reminese about their golfing adventures with Roy and what a great time they all had (mulligans fluffs and all). They really enjoyed themselves. Well, I could write a lot about our friend but will end with HAPPY TRAILS ROY!! Stay in touch Marlene.

I can't find words to express the sadness Tom and I feel about Roy's death. Tom says he was like a brother to him. May God bless you.

I remember Roy Sears quite well as he was a Father to my friends (his children Matt, Mike and Marty) I will always remember his big smile and firm handshake and he was truly a person who helped people in need. I especially remember him helping my brother Mark when he was down on his luck and needed help, and there was Roy to offer him a helping hand. I know that if Mark was here today he would also thank you personally. May you both rest in peace. Brian Shaputis & Family

Roy Sears helped just about anyone that needed help if he could..From the time I met him as a teenager until the time I left his side as an employee & until his passing,I have thought the most of Roy...I was always asking about him because I remember those who were good to me. I have much missed his "morning stories" that always brought a smile to my face.. Roy paid special attention to those close to him = family, customers, employees & friends etc..If he even suspected anyone needing any type of help he made sure things were ok for them.. Roy Sears helped me through some tough times on more than one occasion & to him I am eternally grateful..His manner of conducting business will be missed along with his generosity, wisdom & all around kindness..Mr. Sears was and still is a great asset to the local & surrounding communities due to the business he brought & will be missed very much..To those who truly knew Roy Sears he was all heart through good & bad..I was never able to tell you in person, Thank you Roy/Mr. Sears
