Robert W. Wendt

Robert W. Wendt, age 88, Veteran U.S. Army, Korean War; beloved husband of 62 years to Nancy Wendt, nee Cory; loving father of Denise Wendt, Robert Wendt and Diane (Heinrich) Juhn; cherished grandfather of Samantha and Garrett Juhn.

Robert was life-long resident of Downers Grove and attended Lincoln Grammar School and graduated from Downers Grove High School in 1947. He began his undergraduate degree at the University of Illinois and took courses at Navy Pier.

He enlisted and served in the Army during the Korean War from 1951 to 1953. As a member of the 1st Field Artillery Observation Battalion, he was a Forward Observer and Medic. He was honorably discharged as a Corporal and returned to Downers Grove and continued pursuing his undergraduate degree.

He married Nancy Cory in 1955 and graduated with a degree in Architecture from the University of Illinois, Champaign in 1956. He began his career at the Atomic Energy Commission as a Construction Engineer. He left the Department of Energy in 1982 and took the position of the Construction Project Engineer at Fermilab. At Fermilab he oversaw construction projects related to the Tevatron particle accelerator. Robert retired in 1986.

A Memorial Service will be held, Saturday, September 23rd 11:00 AM at First Christian Church of Downers Grove, 801 63rd St., Downers Grove, IL 60516. Interment Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery.
