Mr. Murray - the original jazz cat! Played ‘bone for him from ’81 – ’85 in marching band / concert band / NC jazz band / SC jazz band / pep band. He kept me so busy I couldn’t keep all my band folders straight! He taught me to play. He taught me to improvise. He gave me my first taste of understanding recording studios in ’84 jazz band. He gave me such a love for music that I was 14 – 17 years old then, I’m 53 now and still very musically active. I was thinking about my favorite teachers from high school, thought of him, and was very much saddened to find out just now that he’s gone on to lay down some blues in heaven. He lives on though, in the influence he gave to us, his students; and when we pass on the same passion for music to the next generation of musicians, he lives on forever!

A great friend, a great Scout, and the man who meant the most to my son through a difficult time of life. Thanks, Bob, for my musician.

Kathy and family,
Through the years of band and sometimes at girl scout camp, Bob was always a wonderful teacher to our children. I know Joe, Chris and Erica all have wonderful memories from their time in the LTHS band. Our sympathy and prayers are with you. Joe and Diane Emry

So sorry for your loss. Mr. Murry was my guitar teacher and My brother Will Ross's band teacher. My brother had great musical talent. I did not. Mr. Murry taught a completely tone deaf gal to play the guitar. He was an amazing and talented teacher, who had the patience of a saint.

Bob Murray will always be one of the most important mentors in my life. He encouraged me to follow my bliss, to pursue my desired path in the 'risky' world of the arts, because he believed in me and knew that I could do it. An encouraging word from a thoughtful and respected teacher can launch a career. Thanks Bob.

The Molter family of Lafayette IN would like to honor the life of Bob Murray. Richard, his music teacher, always was proud of Bob as a great trumpet player - and then even more as a music teacher. What a great legacy for the many kids who are better people because of their joy of music and their dedicated teachers like Bob Murray and our father. Life continues on - but what great memories. God bless Bob Murray.
