Robert Leonard Mitchell, age 95, of Downers Grove, IL passed away on April 28th, 2023. Beloved husband of Louanne Marsha Mitchell. Loving father of Karen Sue Mitchell of Williams Bay, WI and David James Mitchell of Highlands Ranch, CO. Proud grandfather of Robert (Mitchell) Kielmar, Holly Mitchell, and Andrea Mitchell. Robert was preceded in death by his parents Leonard and Lena Margarite Mitchell
Robert graduated from the University of Michigan with a degree in Forestry. He served in the Navy and was honorably discharged. Robert owned and operated Mitchell Moulding Company in Forest Park, IL. Mitchell Moulding operated for over 100 years in the Mitchell family. Robert was an avid woodworker and made furniture, games, and other items. Robert was passionate about trains and turned this into a lifelong hobby. He would visit train museums and stores, swap meets, and the "Big Boy" tour stops. His favorite pastime was running trains on his layout. He enjoyed the holidays, especially Christmas. He would make displays and decorate the house. He was generous and always looked out for the family's well-being. He placed a priority on bringing the family together and having family time.
A funeral was held 11am Saturday, May 6th at Bronswood Cemetery, 3805 Madison St, Oak Brook. In lieu of flowers, those wishing to donate are encouraged to donate to the American Cancer Society.
