Robert Mikes Obituary

On Thursday, February 4, 2021, Robert Mikes, loving husband, passed away at the age of 95. Bob was born on September 1, 1925 in Berwyn, Illinois to James and Julia (Heil) Mikes. He served in the Navy during World War II. On October 2, 1948, he married Orna Volla. He worked as a lithographer for over 40 years. Bob was a talented personal and professional artist who carved wood birds and painted landscapes. Bob lived in Indian Head Park for over 50 years and more recently lived in Fort Myers, Florida. Bob was preceded in death by his father, James, and his mother, Julia. He is survived by his wife Orna, his nephews and nieces Carol (Roger) Iverson, William (Kathy) Paul, Glenn Sargeant and Jenifer (Mitch) Trier and several great nephews.

Hello Orna,
We just read that Bob died a year ago on Feb 4. What an unhappy surprise. You two were a wonderful couple who complemented each other so well. You may have heard that we sold your former lovely house in March of 2020. We so much loved being there for the 13 years we owned it. But we both have health issues and needed to shift back to Madison and the wonderful university doctors and clinics that have been looking after us for decades. We send you our heartfelt sympathy.

Bob and Orna were friends of my parents, Bob and Vi.
Bob Mikes was a fine person with great skill in the visual arts including painting, photography, and drawing. We will miss Bob.

He was loved by everyone he meets. Always a joy to be around. He was quick witted and could bring a smile onto anyone's face. He lived in three states, Illinois, Florida, and Maine. He loved birds. In each of those states there's a unique mix of birds that he would draw beautifully. He was very good with his hands, every time I visited, I was amazed how many crafts were around the house that he made in his spare time. He will be missed dearly.
