Robert W. Hayden
Born: March 1, 1933
Died: September 4, 2023 in Downers Grove, IL
Robert "Bob" Hayden, a loving and devoted family man, passed away peacefully on September 4, 2023, in Downers Grove, Illinois. Born on March 1, 1933, in Chicago, Illinois, to the late George and Elvira (Scharnberg) Hayden, Bob lived a fulfilling life filled with love, kindness, and thoughtfulness.
Bob's education was a testament to his ambition and drive. He attended Northwestern University, where he earned his Bachelor's degree, and later pursued a Master's degree from Roosevelt University. His commitment to education laid the foundation for a successful and fulfilling career.
Bob's professional journey began in the 1950s, and he dedicated over four decades of his life to the telecommunication industry. He served as a Project Manager/Supervisor for notable companies such as Western Electric, AT&T, Lucent, and NCR. His hard work, dedication, and leadership helped shape the industry and left a lasting impact on those he worked with.
Yet, it was family that brought the most joy to Bob. He was a loving husband to Lorraine Hayden, and together they built a life filled with love and laughter. Their union brought forth three children, Robert "Bob," Hayden (Kathe), Theresa "Terry" Mejdrech (Dan), and Patricia "Patty" Hayden. Bob was a devoted father who always put his family first, and he took great pride in his grandchildren, Steven, Brenna, Ruzele, Danny (Jen), Brian (Bella), and Tommy.
Bob's love for his family was matched only by his love for the city of Chicago. A die-hard fan of the Chicago Cubs, he was often found cheering on his favorite team. He also had a penchant for travel and dining out, finding joy in the simple pleasures of life.
Bob was predeceased by his parents, George and Elvira, and his brothers, George (Vangela) and Richard (Marilyn). He leaves behind a legacy of love, kindness, and thoughtfulness. His spirit lives on in his wife, children, grandchildren, and all those who had the privilege to know him.
In remembering Bob, we recall a man who was not only successful in his professional life but also in his personal life. His love for his family was evident in every interaction, his kindness touched everyone he met, and his thoughtfulness made him a cherished member of his community. Bob's life was a testament to living fully, loving deeply, and leaving a positive impact on the world. His memory will forever be etched in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
In honor of Bob's life, a visitation was held at Modell Funeral Home, 7710 S. Cass Ave, Darien on Saturday, September 9, 2023 from 9:00 am until 11:30 am. Prayers and words of remembrance began at 11:30 am.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Bob's memory to the
charity of your choice would be much appreciated.
