Robert Glenn Haley

Robert Glenn Haley, "Bob", Chicago-born, Elmhurst resident for over 65 years, passed peacefully away on October 19, 2017.

Survived by his loving wife, Martha Haley; daughters, Karen (the late Wes) Foster, Linda (Ron) Abrams and Barbara (Terry) O'Toole; and predeceased by son, David (Joni). He was blessed with six grandchildren, Amalie (Rob) Young, Ross (Erin) Foster, Derrick Valentine, Tyler (Paige) Haley, Kimberly (Adam) French and Kelly (Chris) Reynolds; and nine great-grandchildren. He was also the brother of the late Helen McGranahan.

Bob graduated Lane Tech in 1942 then served in three Naval service schools during WW2 attaining the rank of AFC 2/c. While stationed at Norfolk Naval Base, he met his southern sweetheart, Martha Hines. They married on Valentine's Day in 1945 and upon his discharge, they settled in Bob's hometown of Chicago. He apprenticed at Wilson Jones Co. for 5 years, before full employment as a tool & die maker.

As a youth, Bob enjoyed camping and many other activities in the Boy Scouts, eventually earning a Life Scout rank, Order of the Arrow and Junior Assistant Scoutmaster.

As a young father, he moved his family to Elmhurst where he became an active member of Epiphany Lutheran Church serving for 27 years as a teacher and superintendent of the Sunday School. Bob took pride in maintaining his home and cars, and had many interests and hobbies which included clock making, HO trains, building model planes, golf, bowling, gardening and reading. His proficiency on the computer enabled him to digitally document his memoirs and family history.

Memorial Visitation at Ahlgrim Funeral Home, 567 S. Spring Rd., Elmhurst from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Friday, October 27, 2017 and at Epiphany Evangelical Lutheran Church, 314 W. Vallette St., Elmhurst from 11:30 a.m. until time of Memorial Service at 12:00 p.m. Saturday, October 28, 2017. Private Interment Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery.
