Richard F. Stewart, 75, of Sullivan, formerly of Hodgkins, Illinois, passed away at 8:45 a.m. Saturday, February 14, 2015, in the Sullivan Rehabilitation and Health Care Center.

Celebration of Life services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday in the Reed Funeral Home, Sullivan with the Pastor Al Rennert officiating. Visitation will be 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Friday. Burial will be in the Liberty Cemetery, Sullivan with honor guard ceremony provided by the Hodgkins Police Dept.

Memorials are suggested to the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.

Richard was born September 23, 1939, in Chicago, the son of Ronald and Elsie Erdman Stewart. Richard began his career as a police officer in Justice, Illinois and retired in 1997 as the Chief of Police for Hodgkins, Illinois. After moving to Sullivan he worked for the Sullivan Police Dept. and then the Sullivan Water Dept. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Police Lodge # 151, the Illinois Association of Chiefs of Police and the Sullivan Street Machine Association. He married Joyce Beeler on August 27, 1982 in Joliet, Illinois.

Surviving are his wife, Joyce of Sullivan; children, Kenneth (Cindy) Stewart of Plainfield, Linda Fortier of Alsip, Andy (Kelly) Lynn of Hodgkins, Tammy (Craig) Dunham of Nashville, Tennessee; sister, Joan (Ken) McDonald of Sullivan; grandchildren, Matt and Wesley Sewell of Alsip, Jessika and Sydney Lynn of Hodgkins and Darrell Brooks and Amanda Sprinkle of Nashville, Tennessee.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
