Richard "Dick" G. Huntinghouse, 86, of Sycamore died Thursday, January 4, 2018 at Northwestern Medicine Kishwaukee Hospital.
He was born March 14, 1931 in Chicago, IL. to John and Martha (Beyer) Huntinghouse.
He was a veteran of the US Navy, serving aboard a submarine in the Korean War from 1950 until 1954. Dick worked as a firefighter for the Elmhurst IL Fire Department for 32 years, attaining the rank of Captain. He was an avid hunter of deer and fowl making trips out West to Wyoming. Dick was also a great builder and remodeled his share of homes in Elmhurst.
Survivors include 3 daughters, Deborah (David) Hails, Donna Smith, and Darlene Huntinghouse; 5 grandchildren, Brian Hails, Sarah (Nathan) Harter, Jason (Cara) Kromer, Jenette (Eric) Fosse, and Danika Mulcahy; 4 great grandchildren, Sadie, Liam and Audrey, and Levi; along with several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother; and one sister.
Dick's attire was quite limited to his Fire Department uniform and flannel shirts with jeans. The family is requesting that attendees for his memorial luncheon to please wear a flannel/plaid shirt in his honor.
The memorial luncheon will be held on January 20, 2018, at 11:30am at Ki's Steak and Seafood Restaurant, 705 North Ave, Glendale Heights, IL 60139.
Please no flowers, make donations to Smile Train or St. Judes for Children Hospital.

So sorry to hear of Dick's passing. We have always treasured the time we spent with him at Lake Wisconsin. We met through mutual friends and then our friendship developed. He was a terrific man with an industriousness like no other.

Our deepest condolences to the family. "House" was a wonderful Officer and firefighter. I loved working for him and looked to his example as guidance in my career with the FD. He was a great man.
