Rex Gregory Obituary

Rex F. Gregory Jr., age 80, a resident of Glen Ellyn for 42 years, passed away Tuesday, March 10, 2009 at home. Rex was born January 13, 1929 in Memphis, TN. He was a 1st Lieutenant in the Army, serving during the Korean War 1951-1953 with the 339th Harbor Craft and Marine Maintenance Unit in Inchon, Korea. Rex received his B.S. in Marketing from the University of Tennessee, Class of 1951; was a member of the Delta Sigma Phi Fraternity and served as house manager and treasurer; member of Masonic Lodges #864, #768 and currently Lawn Lodge #815, serving multiple terms as Lodge Master and over 30 years as Lodge treasurer; former member of Faith Lutheran Church in Glen Ellyn where he served 2 terms on Illinois Synod Executive Board and over 20 years as assistant Sunday School superintendent, currently active member of St. Luke Lutheran Church of Glen Ellyn; was a private pilot; enjoyed all types of "fix-it" projects, jigsaw puzzles and spending time with his family. Survivors include his beloved wife of 52 years, Eva M. "Sally" Gregory; loving children, Paul "Ziggy" Gregory of Glen Ellyn and Martha (Don) Graffy of Naperville; dear grandchildren, Dave & Melissa Graffy. Rex was preceded in death by his brother Clifton E. (Freddie) Gregory and parents Rex F. Sr. and Bettye Vanderbilt-Gregory. Visitation held Friday, March 13, 2009 3-9pm at the Leonard Memorial Home, 565 Duane Street, Glen Ellyn. A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, March 14th, 11:30am at St.Luke Lutheran Church , 23W080 Butterfield Road, Glen Ellyn (next to Glenbard South High School). With Rev. Dr. John R. Seraphine officiating. Memorials to St. Luke Lutheran Church or CNS Hospice, 690 E. North Avenue, Carol Stream, IL 60188 appreciated. Arrangements by Leonard Memorial Home, (630) 469-0032.
