Raymond Moreland Obituary

MORELAND Raymond "Duke" Edward Moreland, 70, of Jefferson City, died Wednesday, April 25, 2007, at St. Mary's Health Center. He was born on September 21, 1936, in Jefferson City, the son of Otto and Ada Reinhart Moreland Roark. Mr. Moreland was a 1954 graduate of Jefferson City High School and attended Capital Business College. He served in the United States Navy. On Oct. 19, 1963, he was married in St. Elizabeth, Mo. to Jerline Mary Bax, who survives at the home. Mr. Moreland was activities director for the Missouri Department of Corrections for over 20 years, retiring in 2001. He was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and a volunteer for Option Care Missouri River Hospice and an active member of Mid-Missouri Umpires Association. Duke was passionate about his family, sports and love of God. Other survivors include four daughters and their husbands, Paula and Mont McClanahan, Centertown; Kelly and Jeff Thomas; Michele and Scott Higgins; and Jodi and Brad Bates, all of Jefferson City; eight grandchildren, Joshua Batye, Chad McClanahan, Madison Thomas, Mick Thomas, Jack Higgins, Caroline Higgins, Brooke Bates, and Benjamin Bates; and one sister, Peggy Case, Jefferson City. He was preceded in death by his parents; one infant son, Mark Joseph Moreland; one sister, Nancy Munk; one step-brother, J.B. Moreland; and two step-sisters, Mary Baker and Dorothy Hammen. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 a.m. Monday, April 30, 2007, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church with the Rev. M. Brendan Griffey officiating. Burial with full military honors will be in Resurrection Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3-7 p.m. Sunday, April 29th, at Dulle-Trimble Funeral Home with a prayer service at 6:30 p.m. Memorials are suggested to Option Care Missouri River Hospice, 1440 Aaron Court, Jefferson City, MO 65101 or Immaculate Conception Catholic School, 1208 E.
