Quintin R. Hess, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and great-great-grandfather, passed from this life on April 10, 2009, from natural causes. He was born on a farm March 1, 1918, in Fielding, Utah, to Charles C. and Jane Elizabeth Owen Hess. He attended Bear River High School. He married Vonda Belle Tolman on April 28, 1941. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Logan LDS Temple. They have lived in Salt Lake City and Logan and settled in Fielding after purchasing the farm from his father in 1946.
Quintin worked at Thiokol for over 20 years before retiring in 1983. He built and operated a dairy farm with his family for over 55 years before moving into assisted living quarters to care for his dear, sweet wife. He also worked at Holy Cross Hospital, Remington Arms, U&I Sugar Company and for a classified Army project on the Columbia River in Hanford, Wash. He served in the Army during World War II. It seems he was always working two jobs to provide a better life for his family.
He is a lifelong member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in various callings including the Bishopric. Throughout his life he has been an example of hard work and dedication to a good cause and has taught his children to do the same.
His hobbies included farming and gardening, caring for animals and sports of all kinds, and he enjoyed basketball, football, baseball and boxing. Later in life he loved to watch his family participate in sports and could always be found in the stands cheering them on. He also enjoyed hunting pheasants and spending quality time with his family.
He has shown great love for his family of 11 children, 53 grandchildren, 99 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
He is survived by his eternal companion Vonda, and his proud children are: Judy (Dennis) Richards of Lehi; Charles (Marlean) Hess of Merced, Calif; Harold (Jane) Hess of Farr West; Mary (Mike) Perry of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; Tim (Karen) Hess of Providence; Dave (Patti) Hess of North Ogden; Vaughn (Tonya) Hess of Fielding; Barry (Joelle) Hess of Fielding; Becky (Jeff) Ewing of Logan; and the late Quintin R. Hess Jr. and Gaylene Hess.
He is preceded in death by daughter, Gaylene; son, Quintin R. Jr.; six brothers and three sisters, Owen Charles, Kenneth Lyman, Leland, Orland, Henry Reed, Don Clinton, Rilla Hess, Gladys Mary (Nelson) and Rhea Caroline (Hunsaker).
We wish to offer a very special thanks to the Wiliamsburg Retirement Community and Access Hospice for the special care that has been provided to our beloved Quintin and Vonda.
