Not sure what to say?

Pauline Porter was one of the most special people in my life. Anything you did for her, however small, was greatly appreciated. She always had a smile, a hug, a word of encouragement. I lived next door to the Porter's for many years, and took care of their yard all of that time.It seemed to make her happy to have the yard nicely manicured. It was a pleasure to do for someone who was always so happy with what you did. She was sort of a guardian angel who looked out for me in her own way. She will never be forgotten, and I will always be grateful for the presence of this wonderful woman in my life. GLENN RUDY

I only received word of Pauline's passing recently. She was my neighbor and friend for many years. It was my grandfather that married her and Phil in August of 1942 in Galax.

The passing of Phil and Pauline Porter is a tremendous loss to anyone who knew them and a tremendous personal loss for myself. I held them in the absolute highest esteem I know how to hold another person. Theirs was a 71-year love story and they lived their lives in a manner we should all try to emulate.

I could not have asked for a better friend than I had in Pauline. She was always ready to listen and support, always greeted you with arms wide open, and always grateful for anything you did, however small it may have been.

Living next door for so many years, then being in Sparta, I rather felt like I had a guardian angel in Pauline. She will be sorely missed, and gratefully remembered, as will Phil.

The world is a lesser place without this wonderful couple. I am grateful to have been blessed with their acquaintance and presence in my life for so long.
