OPAL 'NELL ' SCHEID Opal "Nell " Scheid (nee Potter), age 91, a Naperville, resident for 48 years, formerly of St. Joseph, Missouri, died on Sunday, October 20, 2013 at Community Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Naperville. She was born February 2, 1922 in Hutchinson, KS. Beloved wife of John E. Scheid, whom she married March 31, 1946, loving and caring mother of John "Phil " (Sara) Scheid of Hillsborough, New Jersey, Jerry (Jackie) Scheid of Medford, Oregon, and Roxann Scheid of Naperville, adored grandmother of Joshua, Matthew and (Kimberly) Scheid, Whitney Bignell, Jeff (Lisa), Jacob (Suzanne) and Jeremy Scheid, cherished great-grandmother of five, devoted daughter of the late George and Hada (nee Finuf) Potter, dear sister of the late Dale, Dorothy and Jim, fond aunt and great-aunt of many. After Nell completed her degree at Hutchinson Junior College, she began teaching in a one-room country school house in Kansas, and continued teaching at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Elementary School, St. Joseph, Missouri, from 1960 until she and her family moved to Naperville, in 1965, completed her teaching degree at Aurora College, and taught the rest of her career, 14 years, at Meadows Elementary School in Lisle. Nell 's dream was to attend the American Academy of Art in Chicago, which she did after she retired. She had the pleasure of having a watercolor she painted in an art studio across the street from the academy after she graduated. Nell was talented and passionate about her painting, she loved sewing, making pottery, and big band dancing.
