NORMAN HAYES Obituary

NORMAN W. HAYES MILTON - Norman Wayne Hayes, 70, died early Monday morning, Jan. 23, 2012, in the Vermont Respite House of Williston, following a battle with cancer. Norman was born on March 14, 1941, in Burlington, the son of Thomas and Mildred (Lane) Hayes. On Jan. 13, 1968, he married Nancy Deforge at St. Ann's in Milton. He and Nancy built a home on the family farm on Hardscrabble Road and had lived there for over 44 years. Norm served in the U.S. Army in Germany and returned home to Milton, where he began his career as a building contractor. Norman loved watching sports and working outside; from mowing his lawn to working in the woods, he took great pride in his work. He also loved watching car races and especially being part of his son John's pit crew. He will be dearly missed by his family. He is survived by his wife, Nancy of Milton; his son, John Hayes and Melissa Reynolds and their children, Thomas Mason and Derrick James Hayes; by his sisters, Marion Schoolcraft and husband, Philip, of New Hampshire, June LeClair and husband, Raymond, of South Burlington and Sylvia "Sue" Taylor and husband, Sherman, of Williston; by his mother-in-law, Nancy Deforge; and by several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents; his brother, Thomas; his sister, Jenny Leduc and her children, Roger, Debbie, Ronald and Suzy Leduc; and by his nephews, Philip Schoolcraft and Scott Taylor. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, Jan. 27, 2012, at 11 a.m. in St. Ann's Catholic Church in Milton. There will be no visiting hours. Arrangements are by the Minor Funeral & Cremation Center. Online condolences may be made to www.minorfh.com. Up a steep dirt road I sat patiently. I looked out the window to see the soft breeze of the wind dance through the branches of the trees. Up we rode on Hardscrabble with every twist and turn. Out my window I saw the alpacas and knew we were near. It wouldn't be long until I would see your smiling face. Uncle Norm one of my favorite memories of you was during the summer time when dad brought us to yours and Aunt Dolls house. I remember you were washing the cars with the garden hose and Aunt Dolls pig Emma was laying in the shade. At one point Emma got up to walk around and you playfully sprayed her with the hose. I laughed and you smiled with a chuckle. I will miss you. May you be in peace and a guardian angel to us all.

Dear Nancy and John my families thoughts and prayers go out to you. Though it is a very difficult season of our lives to loose someone as dear to us as our Husband and Father we are left with the memories as they move to another place. May you be able to, at this time, reflect on the good that Norm has done for countless people he touched in his 70 years with us as Bernadette and I will be. Im am only sorry I am not there to give you the support I wish you to feel from us. Blessings to you both Jim, Bernadette, Chelsea and Christopher

Dear Nancy and John,
David and I are so sorry to read about Norm's passing yesterday.
I have missed exchanging a wave with him in the mornings, on his return trip home, as I set out for work, or seeing him reading his paper in his truck, at the end of your drive. We knew he was very ill most recently and hope that his last days with you were peaceful and in comfort. Please know you are in our thoughts and prayers. Take care of yourselves....Pam and David
