He graduated from Washburn College in 1941 and received a master's degree from Kansas State in 1942. He then served in the U.S. Army for the next 3½years. Bob married Mary Catherine Jennings in Chicago in 1947 and they remained married for nearly 55 years until Mary's death in 2002. They moved to Glen Ellyn in 1956. Bob was also an active member of Kiwanis and Y's men and volunteered for many years at the Glen Ellyn food pantry. He was an active member of the First United Methodist Church where he served on many of its boards. He also taught English as a second language through the Literacy Volunteers of DuPage County. In recognition of their combined volunteerism, Bob and Mary were honored by the Jaycees in 1990 with their Distinguished Service Award, and in 1994 they were named Glen Ellyn's Citizens of the Year. Bob received the Golden Globe Humanitarian Award in Bethlehem Center from the Glen Ellyn Kiwanis in 1991. Mr. Luginbill touched so many of us because he did so many things- work, and then the many service tasks he worked on with full humility. I pray we all honor him by keeping some kind of giving activity in our lives- that way he'll never really be gone. I feel called to a new one, and it is about him and one of his passions. Bob- you exemplified humility & service, and Thanked God one Thanksgiving for ME!, so I'll never stop thanking God for you- every single day- Elena Nichol

Glen Ellyn has lost another wonderful senior statesman but the family has lost a dear man. God has undoubtedly welcomed him with "well done, good and faithful servant." Peace to all the Luginbills from one of Cathy's Glenbard West and GE Jr High classmates.
