Miriam Hubbard Obituary

Miriam E. Hubbard (nee James), 88, formerly of Western Springs, IL, died January 17, 2013 in Barrington, IL. Mrs. Hubbard was the daughter of Charles C. and Virginia James. Graduated from Clear Spring High School in Maryland, she served as a hostess at the USO during WWII where she met her future husband, Robert M. Hubbard. After studying piano at the Shenandoah Conservatory of Music in Winchester, VA, she married Robert in 1946. Mr. Hubbard was an attorney with Amoco Oil Company. During his tenure with the company, the couple lived in Singapore for three years before returning to the Chicago area. Mr. and Mrs. Hubbard traveled extensively throughout Asia, Africa, Europe, and Australia. Miriam enjoyed hosting parties for friends and family and was an exceptional cook. She loved playing the piano, cards and board games, and was devoted to the churches she attended, serving in the choir and as a deacon. After the Hubbards retired in 1986, they lived in Burr Ridge, IL and Sarasota, FL, and more recently at The Garlands in Barrington, IL. Mrs. Hubbard was predeceased by her husband and two brothers, Charles and Theodore James, and leaves a sister, Louise Mattingly. Also surviving are four children; Philip, Kathleen, Elizabeth and James, along with seven grandchildren: Talia, Orin, Anand, Meera, Alana, Matthew, and Megan. A memorial service celebrating Miriam's life will be held at 4:00 pm Saturday, Feb 23, at Presbyterian Church of Western Springs, IL. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Deacons Fund of the Presbyterian Church of Western Springs, 5250 Wolf Road, Western Springs IL 60558.
