Mildred Marshall Obituary

Mildred Juanita Isaacs Marshall

Mildred Juanita Isaacs Marshall, 89, a resident of Autumn Care in Altavista, went to be with her Lord on Friday, Jan. 29, 2010, after a lengthy illness. She was the wife of the love of her life, her late husband, Leonard Granville Marshall.

Born Dec. 12, 1920, she was the daughter of the late James Lawson Isaacs and Maggie Hodge Isaacs. Mildred was a faithful member of the Yellow Branch Wesleyan Church, where she was very active for many years. She retired from the Campbell County School System, where she worked in the Yellow Branch Elementary School cafeteria. She dearly loved all of the students and faculty.

Mildred was also preceded in death by two brothers, Grady Isaacs and Lonnie Isaacs; four sisters, Beulah Revis, Ruby Creasy, Virginia Marshall, and infant, Dorothy Mildred Isaacs; and a special niece, Glinda Rush, who was raised in her home.

Mildred is survived by one daughter, Carolyn deBernard and husband, Patrick; two grandchildren, Kris deBernard and Kevin deBernard and wife, Kelly; two great-grandchildren, Keegan and Kiernan deBernard; one sister, Catherine Robertson; two brothers, Norman Isaacs and Gerald Isaacs; a nephew, Ray Marshall, whom she raised; and many other relatives and friends whom she loved. She was affectionately known as "Aunt Mil" to several special nephews and nieces.

A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 2, 2010, at Whitten Timberlake Chapel, with Pastor Dennis Nichols officiating. Interment will take place at the Isaacs Family Cemetery in Rustburg.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, Feb. 1, 2010, at Whitten Timberlake Chapel and at other times at the residence of Carolyn and Patrick deBernard.

In lieu of flowers, the family would request memorial contributions be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 1022 Commerce St., Lynchburg, VA 24504; or National Kidney Foundation Serving Virginia, 1742 E.Parham Road, Richmond, VA 23228; or a charity of one's choice.

The family would like to thank the entire staff at Autumn Care and the Gentle Shepherd Hospice for their wonderful care and love shown to our mother during her illness.

Dear Carolyn and Family,
Calvin and I are sincerely sorry about the lose of your Mama (Aunt Mil).
I remember when she kept me as a little girl, watching her whirl around the kitchen preparing delicious meals, her free standing mixer blending cake batter while she cooked on the stove. And of course a fire going in her wood cook stove with homemade biscuits or "moon pies" (my favorite) in the warmer.
The red and white tile on her kitchen floor shined for I believe she scrubbed it every day.
I remember the many times I sat at her dinner table overflowing with bowls of food. You, Pat, Leonard, Aunt Mil and I feasted on her wonderful meals after saying grace.
These are only a few of the many warm memories I have of Aunt Mil. The older I get the more I treasure them.
Our prayers and thoughts are with you and your family during this time of grief.
God Bless You.
Love,

Cathy Dent

Carolyn, Mil will be missed by all who knew her. To know her was to love her and you knew she loved you in return. She set an example to live by with her hard work ethic and her unblimished Christian life. As we mourn our loss of her we rejoice in knowing that she is with the love of her life, your dad and that she has heard those blessed words, well done thy good and faithful servant.

Dear Carolyn,
Sending thoughts and prayers to you and your family during this special time.
I have many fond memories of your mom, you, Patrick and Kevin from my days at Yellow Branch. Your mom was so dear and she always gave me extra rolls and other foods that were my favorites. When traveling between Danville and Lynchburg, I think of you all when I get near the school. Please remember me to Kevin.
Fondly, Mary Webb Holley
