Mike; I finally tracked you down from our great times during high school (the cool 70's) only to find you have passed on. Say hi to Rex for me, will you? I know heaven will never be the same with you two having fun up there. Rest in peace dear friend.

I met Mike through a group called the Tribbers, an online discussion group that discusses news articles on the Slat Lake Tribune. From there I got to know him in person at brunches the Tribbers held to discuss politics and the like. Though I had only known Mike for just a short time, little over a year, I felt like I had known him for many more.
You will be missed my friend and I will miss being able to engage you in the enlightening conversations we had at the Tribbers brunches. Travel well Sir, the universe is a great big place to explore. Love you Irish Mike, I will carry a part of you with me for the rest of my days. John St John

Damn you Irish Mike the Original. You're two months and two days younger than me. We had many the friendly banter and bicker o'r the years.
I hope you made it to heaven before the Devil realized you were dead.
You will be missed in the TribZone my erstwhile and virtual friend.

"Fooball is my life. If it were not for fooball, I would not be playing fooball today!" Your humor and love of the game (seemingly anything with a ball) kept your spirit playful and youthful. You always brightened my day even when I knew often yours was shadowed with sorrow.
Our lives here do seem to play out in a veil tears. Death was not part of the design and seems so unfair and unnatural. Still, I'm comforted to know that you have past through that and can be on the other side with your family.
Thank you, Mike, for making my life a little brighter. Your playful whimsey will play on in my memory until I see you again.

Dear Birt Family,
Wow! We were shocked and saddened to hear about Mike's passing. There has never been a more kind and unconditional person than Mike and we were so blessed to have been the recipient of his love and laughter! He always had a kind word and a big hug for us whenever we were together. We hope you find peace in knowing that Mike is finally free of the pain he has suffered for so long. He is smiling and laughing with his beautiful mother, Alex, Christopher and many other loved ones he has been without. We hope you will feel peace and know how much we all love you.
Love,
Rick and Suzie Kendell

He helped teach me how to scan big maps with a whole lot of patience (which I'm sure wasn't easy) and kindness. My deepest condolences to his family and friends. His smile and kindness will be greatly missed.

I'm going to miss working with Mike at West Valley City, we often swapped stories about which wonderful cut of meat we had cooked that weekend, from "Snider's Meats" up on 20th East. Mike always claimed the one of the best smells in the world was when you opened the door to go into "Snider's"....I agree!
Mike was a good friend and I loved him and will miss his "happy style".
Condolences to Mike's family and other friends....we are all better for having known and shared our time here on Earth with him. Clare Halladay

My deepest condolences to Mike's family and loved ones. Mike was a great coworker and friend to me and I will truly miss him. He was genuine and kind and always positively impacted my life. We played softball, talked baseball, traded movies, fixed my car, fixed my car again, visited at bees games, and carpooled together. Mike was proud of his yard, cars, and family and talked about them often...especially his brothers. He was ever welcoming and always willing to lend a helping hand or make you feel good about yourself. Thank you for your great friendship Mike. You were the best and I will truly miss you.

Mikey,
You were such a big part of our family for so long, the memories run like a movie. Thank you for giving our sister Pamey (and us too!), so many good memories - baseball games, golfing, Christmases, and other family gatherings. I'll never forget the cruise of 2006! We had such fun. Thank you for your many words of wisdom, the least of which, "No fat, no flavor!" Mikey, you were great with kids!! I wish our son could get to know you better. We will miss you dearly. May you rest in Gods loving care. Love, "Sailor"
