Melvin Swanborn Obituary

Melvin John Swanborn, age 93, of Batavia, died Thursday, March 4, 2010, at Rosewood Care Center in St. Charles. Beloved husband of June H. Swanborn; loving father of Mel (Ellen) Swanborn of Baldwinsville, New York, Beverly (Frank) Drong of Grayslake, IL, and Debra (Steven) Burrichter of Batavia; adored grandfather of Scot (Sueanne) Swanborn, Tracy (Niles) Baker, Pam (Mark) Wessel, Scott (Tonya) Wiedeman, Victoria (Charles) Anderson, and Christopher (Ingrid), Sarah, and Douglas Burrichter; caring great-grandfather of Parker and Forest Swanborn, Kira Baker, Madeline and Charlie Wessel, and Ben Wiedeman; much-loved brother of Beverly (John) Buehner of Quincy, IL, and Robert (Nancy) Swanborn of Chicago. Melvin was preceeded in death by his mother, Evelyn, and his father Edward, and two brothers Frank and Edward. Melvin was a U.S. Marine during World War II and served in the Pacific in various locations including Iwo Jima. Mel worked for Inland Steel Corporation as a Transportation Specialist. In the early 1960's, he was also the president of the Delta Nu Alpha transportation fraternity. During the 1970's and 1980's he was an active and involved member of Christ Church of Oakbrook. Mel was also an avid golfer with a hole-in-one officially recorded. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 13, 2010, at 11:00 A.M. at Crossway Chapel, 161 S. Lincolnway (Route 31), Suite 309, North Aurora, Illinois. Memorial gifts may be given to Crossway Chapel. For additional information, please call the church at (630) 892-9357.
